The cultivation of cucumbers is one of the priority directions of gardening in our country. However, the cold climate and late spring in many regions force the use of special structures - hotbeds or greenhouses. They help seedlings to sprout faster and harvest in June - July, without worrying about possible frosts.

About greenhouses and greenhouses

Building a greenhouse is more labor intensive than installing a greenhouse. Both building materials and the amount of work required play a role here.

When building a greenhouse, you need to take into account many nuances, since it is considered a more complex structure. Its distinctive features are as follows:

  • stationary location;
  • big sizes;
  • capital frame, weather-resistant;
  • durable coating material.
At the same time, the greenhouse is a simple structure that is mounted only at the initial stage of cucumber growth and is removed after the weather has been established.

Greenhouse elements

By its design, the greenhouse includes the following elements:

  • concrete base;
  • metal carcass;
  • cover made of durable canvas (film or transparent plastic / glass);
  • irrigation device (hydraulic cylinder);
  • heating and lighting a room;
  • a door.

In large greenhouses, it is also necessary to equip a ventilation system for the gas exchange of plants.

Greenhouse types

These garden structures are distinguished by a wide variety of types.

The most primitive options are a wooden box covered with glass or transparent polycarbonate. You can also use film, but it sags under the weight of precipitation and requires attention.

Another simple option is a small pit in the ground, at the bottom of which seedlings are planted. From above, it is also covered with a material that allows sunlight to pass through.

More complex structures imply a permanent or collapsible structure. Collapsible greenhouses are very convenient as they can be installed anywhere every new season.

The easiest way to make such a structure is from fittings that bend in the form of arches and are installed in the dug soil. Long reinforcement guides are fixed on top of the arches with wire. The entire structure is covered with a film that is pressed to the ground with stones or metal pipes.

Capital greenhouses are made of beams or metal pipes. They can be covered with polycarbonate or glass and represent a small greenhouse.

Manufacturing materials

Reinforcement bars, metal profiles and pipes, as well as wooden beams are suitable as a frame. Fastenings can be made with wire, bolts or screws, depending on the type of construction.

Among the covering materials are glass, polycarbonate and film. The first is effective enough, but it can break. The clear plastic panel is very durable but costs a lot of money. Finally, the film is the cheapest and most short-lived option, which is easy to install and does a good job with its function.

For the construction of the greenhouse, a concrete base is also used, which is made in the form of a foundation. Heating and ventilation equipment is also required, which costs a lot of money.
