Choosing the right variety

To get a good harvest, experienced summer residents are advised to select elite varieties. Planting strawberries in August will give a good result if seedlings with well-developed roots are selected. Their length must be at least 5 cm. In addition, the plant should have 3 well-developed leaves. Suitable plants can be found in your garden. The seedlings are dug up and stored in bags in a cool place until planting.

Before choosing a seedling, you must carefully examine it so that there are no changes on the plant caused by diseases and pests. The easiest way is to purchase ready-made seedlings that have undergone special training. The plants from which the seedlings were taken are grown under ideal conditions. Such copies can be purchased from the first weeks of July to early August. It is advisable to plant sprouts of future bushes as early as possible so that they have time to take root in the soil.

Preparing the garden

For planting strawberries, it is necessary to choose the most sunny part of the site, preferably on small slopes. Also in these places, groundwater should not come too close to the surface. It is advisable to treat the place of future planting from pests. Then all weeds are removed. 2 weeks before the completion of work on the placement of bushes in the place of the future beds, humus is scattered. Approximately 2-3 buckets per square meter.

When choosing a suitable place, it is necessary to consider which plants have been placed here up to this point. Strawberries cannot be planted after tomatoes, eggplants, potatoes, sunflowers. Ideally, peas or beans grew in the garden before the strawberries.

The order of planting seedlings

Young plants must be placed so that the center point of the seedling rises slightly above the soil surface. When planting, the roots are lowered into the hole so that they do not bend. If the roots are too long, it is recommended to trim them. If there are fears that some of the plants will die during the winter, it is allowed to place up to 2 seedlings in 1 hole.

After finishing work, the bushes are watered abundantly. If all the seedlings survive, the yield will only increase. Sprouts take root in the soil faster if they are covered with a special cloth to create a greenhouse effect. If the last days of summer are dry enough, watering is necessary. The soil in the strawberry garden should not dry out.

The number of berries harvested in the next season will depend on how the flower buds are laid. The planted bushes should be fed, for this a solution is prepared, consisting of 30 g of urea, diluted in 10 liters of water. Plants fed on the eve of wintering will give a greater yield. Before the onset of frost, strawberries are reliably covered until spring and the return of heat.
