Garter rules in open soil

Tying cucumbers in an open garden is easy. But before you start work, you need to familiarize yourself with several important rules and nuances. Beginners often do not understand the importance of such a procedure, but if the plants are not tied up, the quality and number of fruits will greatly decrease. This is due to the fact that without a garter, the shoots will creep along the soil surface, feeling a lack of lighting. And if the plant does not receive the optimal amount of sunlight, the setting of cucumber lashes will be slow.

Some summer residents refuse to tie up shoots, claiming that in this state the bushes receive more nutrients and moisture from the soil. However, the position is erroneous, since the stems placed on the surface themselves begin to look for structures for which they can catch on. This causes them to dry out and become damaged. And if the cucumbers choose other garden crops as a support, the latter will be subjected to increased stress and may get sick or die.

Timely tying a plant has the following advantages:

  • Weeding the soil under the cucumbers becomes easier and faster.
  • Shoots and leaves are saturated with heat and light.
  • Pollination is faster as the bees gain access to the inflorescences.
  • Harvesting tied seedlings is more comfortable.
  • Feeding and watering such plants is much easier.
  • The risk of developing fungal diseases is reduced.

To properly tie cucumbers, you need to prepare several tools and follow the step-by-step guide.

Basic garter methods

If a horizontal method of tying cucumber shoots is used, it must be carried out according to the following instructions:

  • First, you need to drive 2 pipes or sticks into the soil at the ends of the beds.
  • A strong rope or dense strips of fabric is pulled between the supporting structures with a 30 cm deviation from the ground surface.
  • Then you should step back from the cord by 20-30 cm and pull the next layer.
With this method, you can arrange several rows with identical intervals.

In the case of a vertical tie, 2 wooden or metal supports should be fixed along the edges of the garden. A similar pipe is tied to their upper parts or twine is pulled. Further to the crossbar from above, pieces of fabric or rope are fixed.
