Usually, raspberries are propagated by green cuttings in the spring, since this period is considered the most suitable and falls under the time of their active growth. The formation of a raspberry bush begins with planting a small number of seedlings, after which you can gradually increase the volume of the planting area. It is important to understand that the size of the berries depends not only on the variety, but also on the care, including the correct seating.

Is it possible to plant raspberries in the summer
The answer to this question is ambiguous. Some write that it is categorically impossible, and raspberries simply will not take root, no matter how you care for them, others believe that if you follow all the rules, raspberries planted in summer will grow well. Green cuttings will help to propagate expensive, elite varieties in the summer.
There are significant advantages of planting raspberries in the summer:
- The seedlings have time to adapt, they “take root” easier and faster, and the winter for them goes well, not so harshly.
- Already next summer, new ovaries will appear on the bushes, the fruiting process will actively continue.
But not without drawbacks. This seating method should be used only in an emergency, when you do not want to wait a whole season to implement it. There is a chance, albeit small, that the cuttings will not take root.
Another disadvantage is compliance with weather conditions. It is impossible for it to be hot, but at night the temperature should not drop below 15 degrees.
How to plant raspberries
First you need to find the right place to land.
Specific conditions must be observed:
- direct rays of the sun should not fall on the plant, otherwise it will scorch already weak leaves;
- soil quality plays a key role. It should be loose, even better if it is loamy or sandy loam.
It is better to plant on an elevated area on the southern or southwestern slope, where diffused light most often predominates. You shouldn't choose the lowlands. Melt and rain water often accumulates there, and excessive moisture has an extremely negative effect on raspberries.
Site preparation
Before planting cuttings, the site must be carefully prepared. It is necessary to dig the area to a sufficient depth to plant the cutting. Raspberries prefer land where potatoes, legumes, crucifers and other plants used to grow.
If the soil is infertile, you will need to feed it. Each planting hole requires at least 10 kg of humus, 80 g of ash and 40 g of ammophos.
Only healthy, strong seedlings are suitable for planting. Better to plant in the second half of June. It is necessary to make cuttings from the bottom of the shoots that are best suited for planting. This process is best done in the morning, when the plant is most saturated with water.
There are several ways to grow cuttings. First way:
- Soak the base of the cutting in a solution designed to stimulate root formation, or you can dip it in growth powder.
- Next, this stalk must be planted in a prepared container with a substrate made of high moor peat, humus and river sand.
- After, within 3-4 weeks, you need to spray the future plant with warm water.
The second method is more labor intensive. It consists in growing plants in a jar of water.
Then the raspberries can be planted in prepared holes (20-50 cm deep). Better to do it in the morning.
Planting and growing raspberries that will delight you for more than one year is not always easy, but the time spent will pay off doubly.
