Compositions with nitrogen content stimulate the growth of green mass, and potassium and phosphorus have a positive effect on the formation of high-quality tubers.
Required fertilizers
The main additives used by gardeners include:
- Wood ash with a rich mineral composition. Up to 10 kg of this substance is consumed per one hundred square meters of land. In addition to nutrition, ash disinfects the soil and prevents putrefactive processes.
- Manure - the most common are horse and cow manure. This fertilizer stimulates the formation of a fertile layer, loosens the soil and improves the quality of the crop. For one hundred square meters, the application rate is 400 kg.
- Chicken manure, used only diluted with water. The optimal composition ratio is 1:15 (droppings / water). Pour 1 liter of nutritional infusion under each bush.
- Green fertilizer, which is a rotted and fermented mass. This fertilizer can be obtained from any plant. The recommended dose is 1 liter under 1 bush.
Top dressing of potatoes must be done not only with organic compounds, but also with mineral ones, these include:
- urea;
- ammonium nitrate;
- azophoska;
- superphosphate.
Fertilization rules
Top dressing of potatoes is performed in several stages:
- late May-early June - formulations with nitrogen content are added, for example, ammonium nitrate;
- period of bud formation - potash preparations are used: potassium sulfate, wood ash;
- flowering phase - fed with mixtures containing phosphorus, for example superphosphate.
According to experienced gardeners, the introduction of systemic mixes in the form of several mixed additives will have a beneficial effect on the level and quality of the crop.
Foliar dressing
Nutrients can be delivered to potatoes not only by root, but also by foliar method. The procedure should be carried out early in the morning or in the evening to prevent burns on the leaves left by the sun's rays. For this purpose, use:
- infusion of nettle;
- phosphorus;
- potassium humate.
Potatoes can be processed after the first hilling.
Tillage in autumn
The introduction of nutrients into the soil after harvesting will save time on complementary foods during the planting process. In addition, drugs that take time to transform into an assimilable form do just fine by spring.
Fresh manure or complex formulations can be used as fertilizer. A good option would be to use green manure; oil radish, oats and rye are well suited for this case.
The use of top dressing will allow you to get a high-quality harvest every year, even in small areas that do not allow you to follow the rules of crop rotation.
