Good afternoon, my reader. Patience and a little effort. This old Russian proverb is the best illustration of gardening. It seems to an inexperienced gardener that it is very simple to grow the desired crop: you bought seeds, threw them in the ground, did not forget to water and wait for the harvest. This is so, but not so. We will tell you how to grow vegetables without tearing your back, and get a lot of pleasure from the work done and a good harvest!

PLOT

Look at it carefully. The area should be flat with as much sunlight as possible during the day. Do not expect a large harvest from low-lying areas (stagnant water does not promote plant growth) and located on a hill (plants will experience a constant lack of moisture).

THE SOIL

If the soil on your site is fertile, you are lucky! Most often, gardeners and gardeners use fertilizers - chemical or organic - to improve the composition of the soil. Before starting to grow crops, determine the composition and acidity of the soil. It must be sufficiently air and water permeable, then it will retain heat, moisture and nutrients well.

Determine acidity

It is subdivided into weakly acidic, neutral and alkaline. How to determine the acidity level:

  1. PH tester instrument.
  2. By the type of growing plants - heathers, blueberries, cranberries, rhododendrons, violets and camellias grow well on acidic soils. On alkaline ones - henbane, lamb, oxalis, cloves, lilacs and jasmine.
  1. Place a handful of earth in a container of vinegar. The bubbles will tell you that the soil is neutral. Hissing and foam is an indicator that the soil is acidic.

The acidity of the soil is quickly and easily neutralized by liming.

Bed

It is easier for beginners to make traditional rectangular beds. I wanted to experiment - then vertical, high and beds in containers. The best location is from south to north. The optimal size of the bed: width - 60-90 cm, height - 40-50 cm. Between them there are paths 50-60 cm wide. Roofing material, any non-woven material, boards will help protect them from grass.

WHAT WE WILL PLANT

Start by growing simple crops such as radishes, herbs (lettuce, parsley, dill), carrots and beets. Legumes are unpretentious in care. Try growing potatoes. Zucchini and pumpkins will delight you. Is it worth planting tomatoes and cucumbers - think about it. If you have a greenhouse on your site, then yes, a little and a must. If there is none, it is not worth it. Solanaceous plants are very dependent on outdoor temperature, watering and are susceptible to infection with various diseases. Cabbage is also a vegetable with character.
