Reasons for pruning remontant raspberries

There are some features pruning of this type of raspberry, so some difficulties may arise with it for novice gardeners.

It is possible to collect from a plant in one season 2 crops - in summer and autumn. In this case, strong young branches of this year are left to winter, like in ordinary raspberries. They are only slightly trimmed tops. But this method usually leads to the fact that the bush weakens, yield decreases, and the taste of berries deteriorates. There is also a possibility that the larvae of the raspberry beetle will feed on fruits that will ripen in summer. All these circumstances can lead to the loss of maintainability.

To avoid this, all branches after fruiting are cut off at the very base and burned. At the same time, hemp cannot be left, pests can multiply in them. In the spring, young stems will begin to develop in place of the old shoots, and by autumn they will ripen large fruits. They will not be spoiled by the raspberry beetle, since by this time it is already hibernating. With this option, one harvest is obtained per year. But the quality and quantity of berries will be excellent.
