What are humic acids used for?

Humate (or humic salt) is a natural catalyst for plant biochemical processes. It promotes an increase in green mass, rapid growth of shoots. In addition, these substances enhance the immunity of the crop, make it more resistant to adverse climatic conditions and pests.

The scope of application of humate is quite wide. This type of fertilizer is used for root irrigation, foliar irrigation and spraying, soaking seeds before planting, as well as processing the soil itself, on which the plant will be planted.

What to choose: potassium humate or sodium humate?

There are two types of humic salts on sale: potassium humate and sodium humate. They have the same effect on plants. The principle of their manufacture is different. So, potassium samples are made from brown peat, and sodium samples are made from brown coal.

Potassium acids are considered to be more active than sodium acids. In addition, the latter may contain small amounts of heavy metals. However, they are much cheaper than potassium ones, therefore they are often used in private households and in the industrial cultivation of various crops.

How to use fertilizer correctly

A small amount of humate solution is used to soak the seeds. Prepare it like this:

  • Take a liter of water and half a gram of dry matter.
  • The humate is diluted in water until completely dissolved.
  • Seeds are soaked in the solution for a day, seedlings - for 16 hours.

For feeding plants planted in the ground, the agent is prepared according to a different recipe. In 10 liters of water, 5 grams of sodium humate are diluted (if you use potassium humate, you will need only 3 grams). The prepared solution is poured into the irrigation system. This makes it possible to irrigate the leaves and trunk of the plant with the substance. Fertilizer is sprayed only in the evening or in the early morning, so as not to harm the greenery.

A stronger solution of humate is used for watering. It is prepared at the rate of 10 grams of fertilizer per 10 liters of warm water.

This top dressing is applied to the root circle. The tool is used three times: immediately after planting the plant, during the period of rapid growth, as well as during the growing season. At the same time, the recommended interval between watering is strictly observed: it is 12-15 days. Two weeks before harvesting, such feeding is completely stopped so as not to harm the fruits.
