Dracaena care rules

The studied flower, despite its unusual appearance, organically fits into any interior. Dracaena visually resembles a palm tree and represents the Dracene family. The preferred climate is subtropical and tropical, the natural environment is Africa and Southeast Asia. About 40 species of this plant are grown in greenhouses, and only 10 in an apartment.

Green dracaena leaves will add zest to any room, and the growing rules will delight you with their simplicity. All plant varieties that take root in indoor conditions are similar to each other, but some have significant differences. Many gardeners love Dracaena for the variety and beauty. And not without reason, because with proper care, the flower will live up to 15 years and will delight you with numerous flowering.

Watering frequency and room temperature are important factors when growing dracaena. Avoid sudden changes in room temperature, favorable warmth: 18-25 degrees. It is just drafts and cold air that cause the leaves to freeze, after which their edges can dry out.

Actions for dry leaf edges

  • The main measure is to establish an irrigation regime. With a lack of moisture, the plant suffers and its quality deteriorates. As soon as the soil in the pot dries up, the dracaena needs moisture. And in winter, when the plants are watered less often, this should be done with dracaena at least once a week.
  • Eliminate possible drafts. Wind and cold air negatively affect dracaena. To avoid this, do not place the flower on a windowsill or near an air conditioner. The fact is that the currents of cold air reduce the moisture content, and the leaves of the plant react negatively to this.
  • Soil selection. The appearance of a palm tree directly depends on the chosen soil, so it is important to sometimes change the soil in the pot or replant the dragon tree. Watering with hard water changes the composition of the soil, and this affects the condition of the root system and the flower itself.
  • Protection from direct sunlight. Dracaena needs diffused lighting, and if you provide it with bright rays, the leaves will get burns and subsequently dry out.
  • Placing it at a sufficient distance from nearby flowers will protect the dracaena from infections that are spread from other plants.

The level of air humidity is also important. 60-70% is ideal humidity for this tropical palm tree. Unfortunately, this level does not coincide with the realities of our apartments, but this is compensated by spraying the flower with warm water from a spray bottle.

Causes of yellowing leaves

Their lifespan is about 2 years. When old leaves turn yellow, they must be removed. But if such a process is observed on a young plant, you need to determine the cause and correct this situation.

According to experts, there are the following prerequisites for color changes:

  • non-compliance with the rules of care;
  • irregular hydration;
  • lack of nutrients;
  • pests.
Adjusting watering, controlling the level of humidity and drafts, feeding from March to August - all this will help to cope with yellowing of the leaves!
