Classification of varieties and varieties

The generic name Chrysanthemum comes from the Greek chrysos (golden-flowered) - probably due to the typical color of the flowers. But in modern varieties, they play with all shades of a rainbow palette. There are many varieties, they are divided into groups according to common characteristics.

By the shape and size of the bush

According to the height of the bush, there are three types.

By flower shape

The flowers of chrysanthemums are also different. They may be:

  • terry - a basket of reed flowers;
  • semi-double - the middle of tubular flowers, and the five outer rows are reed;
  • simple - large central disc of tubular flowers, 1-4 outer rows ligulate.

By inflorescence size

The inflorescences are collected in a scutellum or thyroid panicle. They are divided according to their size:

  • on small-flowered - with a diameter of 2 to 9 cm, on one bush from 10-20 pieces or more;
  • large-flowered - diameter of inflorescences 10-25 cm, up to 8 pieces on a bush.

Landing

Chrysanthemums are planted in a sunny place from late May to mid-June.

Recommendations:

  • The land is fertilized for digging, per sq. compost bucket meter.
  • They are planted for drainage from sand and gravel.
  • The distance between large bushes is 50 cm, for compact varieties 25 cm.
  • The tall ones are immediately given support.

Care

Water so that the soil always remains slightly moist. For chrysanthemums, it is more practical to establish drip irrigation. If the ground dries up, the bush will shed its buds and quickly turn yellow.

Top dressing - every 2 weeks before flowering. A complex fertilizer with the addition of magnesium is used.

In order for the bush to branch well, the stem and side shoots are pinched when they stretch up to 10 cm.

Before winter, the stems are cut to ground level. The plant is spud and insulated with fallen leaves.

Diseases and pests

Chrysanthemums rarely get sick, but to eliminate risks, the bushes are sprayed with Bordeaux liquid before flowering.

Pests:

  • Spider mite - settles on the back of leaves. They darken and fall off. The bushes are treated with Fitoverm.
  • Chrysanthemum nematode - penetrates from the soil. Brown spots appear on the leaves. Ground sulfur is added to the soil, spilled with hot water, and the plants are treated with Decaris solution.

Reproduction

Propagated in three ways:

  • By dividing the bush - no more than once every 3 years. In the spring, when there is no longer a threat of frost, the bush is dug up and divided into several parts.
  • Seeds - through direct sowing. Place 3 seeds in each hole.
  • Cuttings - cut off shoots 6-8 cm with three leaves. Rooted in a mixture of sand and peat, under a greenhouse hood at a temperature of + 13... + 15 ° C. Then they are transplanted into separate pots. They are transferred to the flowerbed at the end of May.
Even a withering autumn garden will be bright if chrysanthemums are growing there. They are appreciated for their long and abundant flowering.
