Good afternoon, my reader. Kalanchoe is one of the most common home-grown plants. Like all succulents, it is not picky about care and does not require special conditions of detention. It has thick, fleshy stems and leaves. It blooms with flowers with four petals in various shades - from white to purple.

Reproduction of Kalanchoe

Reproduction of Kalanchoe at home, without special devices and techniques, is available in 6 ways:

  • Children.
  • By the kidneys.
  • Offspring.
  • Cuttings.
  • Leaves.
  • Seeds.

Children

Babies can only form in certain varieties. They are a small copy of a flower with two leaves and roots. As a fully functional plant, they can be immediately planted in a separate pot.

Kidneys

Certain species, after flowering, shed not only flowers, but also leaves. In place of a fallen leaf, a bud, similar to a cabbage, sprouts. Over time, a trunk grows from the bud, which is cut off and planted in the ground with sand. The trunk quickly forms a root system and turns into a full-fledged plant.

Offspring

In order for the flower to grow offspring, certain manipulations are carried out - after flowering, the top of the plant is pinched. The grown offspring are carefully divided with the mother plant, when their growth is 1/3 of the adult representative. They are planted in soil enriched with sand and peat, where the offspring begins to grow actively.

Cuttings

Harvesting cuttings will not only allow you to propagate the flower, but also rejuvenate it and improve its appearance. Kalanchoe stems tend to stretch upward during flowering. After the flowers fall, the plant looks half naked and loses its attractiveness. Cuttings are harvested from the elongated part of the shoot.

The cut off shoot is placed in prepared soil and watered abundantly with settled water. Germination of roots in a container with water is allowed. After the roots appear, the cutting is pinched from above, this will allow you to get a lush bush.

Leaves

Kalanchoe can be propagated even with the help of an old leaf, only not dried out, which itself fell off the plant. But it is recommended to carefully separate the sheet from the trunk yourself.

The trunk of the leaf is placed in pre-moistened sand, everything is covered on top with a transparent glass or plastic cap and placed in a bright place. Reproduction in this way is carried out in the last days of May or in early June.

Seeds

This method is used much less often than all the previous ones. Suitable for growing rare Kalanchoe species.

Flower seeds are poured onto the prepared soil from a mixture of peat and sand. They are not buried, but covered with glass and the containers are removed to a well-lit place. For seed germination, it is necessary to maintain the temperature at + 20 ° C. The seeds are regularly watered and aired.

The sprouts that appear are given time to grow and get stronger, and only then are they transplanted into separate pots.

Breeding methods for different species

Not all Kalanchoe varieties are able to reproduce in all the above ways. For some, it is necessary to choose the right type of breeding:

  • The pinnate Kalanchoe, the tube-flowered and the Degremon variety are able to breed in children.
  • Buds are exclusively paniculate-flowered species.
  • Only Blossfeld's Kalanchoe is the offspring.
  • Cuttings - Blossfeld and Mangin.
  • Leaves - any kind of Kalanchoe with fleshy foliage.
  • Seeds - felt and feathery types of flower.

It is not difficult to propagate Kalanchoe on your own at home.

The main thing is to choose the right way, suitable for a particular species, and to provide care for young plants.

As a result, the flower will delight you with its splendor and abundant flowering.
