Good afternoon, my reader. From the fact that some kind of orchid is awarded the prefix "indoor", it does not cease to be a tropical culture adapted to quite specific growing conditions. Due to the complexity of caring for this plant, problems often arise, incl. and rotting of the root system.

Causes of decay

No wonder professional florists recommend growing orchids in transparent containers. This makes it possible to monitor the state of the root system of the flower. The life-supporting processes in the plant depend on her health.

By the color and condition of the roots, you can determine whether the flower needs watering or is not satisfied with some other conditions of detention.

Ground requirements

The most common cause of root rot is improper soil. Epiphytic plants do not need ordinary soil, because they can grow anywhere: on trees, stones, rocks.

When talking about growing orchids at home, the word "soil" should be understood as a special substrate, consisting of pine bark, moss, coconut fibers, perlite (vermiculite) in equal parts.

Such a composition improves the structure of the "soil", does not retain moisture in the roots and passes air well, which allows the plant to breathe.

Important! The structure of the substrate in which the orchid grows changes over time (becomes denser), due to which the "soil" becomes unusable and must be replaced.

Lighting

The roots of an orchid are designed in such a way that moisture is consumed only when there is enough light. In the natural environment, the plant does not have problems with this. At home, especially in winter, lack of sunlight will affect the health of the roots — excess moisture not absorbed by the flower will lead to their rotting.

Incorrect feeding

The delicate roots of the flower are very sensitive to mineral fertilizers, which mainly consist of salts. Improper use of concentrated complexes can lead to a burn of the root system, after which the process of decay will begin.

Excessive watering

Despite the fact that the orchid is a moisture-loving plant, it receives most of its water in the form of rain. In indoor conditions, spraying a flower with a spray bottle is much more preferable than frequent watering at the root. In addition, excess moisture leads to fungal infections, which provoke the appearance of mold rot.

Plant resuscitation

It is a little difficult to identify root rot in an orchid planted in an opaque pot. However, external signs: wilting, dropping of buds, flowers, leaves - give grounds for an urgent revision.

The plant is taken out of the pot and the roots are carefully examined: rotten, soft, non-viable areas are mercilessly cut out. The remnants of the root system are washed under warm running water and allowed to dry for 2-3 hours.

The cut sites are treated with pharmacy brilliant green and the flower is planted in a clean pot with good drainage and a new substrate. If the rules of care are violated again, then it will not be possible to save the plant.

Spectacular orchids just want to be called unearthly creation. Perhaps that is why exotic beauties require special care and constant attention.
