Good afternoon, my reader. Flower growers very often choose daylilies for landscape design, as they are very decorative and unpretentious to care for. In addition, they can be combined well with other plants.

What rules must be followed when using daylilies in creating landscape compositions?

Daylilies are very different in color, growth, and flowering time. All these aspects need to be considered when creating a flower bed.
  • If this is a rock garden, then we choose low-growing daylilies. If the lilies are in the center of the composition, then we choose tall, brightly colored varieties.
  • It is also necessary to take into account the colors of other plants that will grow in the flowerbed next to the lilies. Lilies and other flowers should be close in color so that we have a truly harmonious composition on the site, and not a chaotic set of colorful plants. For example, yellow-leaved hosts are very suitable for yellow lilies.

  • The shape of the daylily leaves also plays a significant role. There are varieties with narrow falling leaves, and there are wide ones, directed upwards. You need to carefully consider how the green mass will look in the flower bed in combination with other plants, stones or other decorative items.
  • It is best to place tall varieties of lilies with fragrant flowers near the benches.
  • Daylilies with light shades, white, pink and yellow flowers will look good near houses or other structures made of red brick or painted in dark colors. On the contrary, it is better to plant daylilies with purple, red or purple flowers near houses with light facades.

What plants are best to combine daylilies in a flower bed?

Interesting compositions can be created with phlox, matching in color with lilies. After all, phlox bloom occurs at the end of July, like most lilies bloom. For example, flower beds with dark purple lilies and phloxes with lilac flowers look spectacular.

Daylilies with star-shaped or round flowers can be combined well with other spherical or pyramidal plants.

Lilies of yellow color go well with buzulniks and gravilats of the same color, and with crimson, pink or lilac flowers - with monards, geraniums and astilbe.

You can also play with contrasting colors: for example, dilute orange with blue. To plant lilies with purple flowers, plant a menokopsis or a bell, and with pink ones - a green-yellow cuff.

Some flower growers use only daylilies when creating a landscape composition. Here you can be guided either by the principle of color compatibility, that is, to plant lilies of different types, but of the same color scheme, or play on contrast and place daylilies of completely different shades next to each other.

Using your imagination, you can create interesting compositions on the site, combining plants that are completely different in appearance and color.
