As a rule, its elements (gutters, pipes, funnels and various accessories) are purchased together with the roofing material, but sometimes they are bought separately or made on their own from tin. However, it also happens that for a number of reasons it is not possible to buy drainage parts (financial or there is no corresponding store nearby), and to bend tin on your own - there are simply no necessary skills. But what to do if the drain is unexpectedly damaged and you urgently need to temporarily patch it up with any materials at hand? Just decide on the material. They can be, for example, ordinary plastic bottles. The drain made of them, with the proper quality of work, can even be mounted not temporarily, but as a permanent one.

Of course, first you will need to get bottles for him, the number of which is determined by the length of the drainage system. Where can I get them? You can involve relatives, acquaintances, neighbors in their collection. At the dacha, in front of the fence, it is even advisable to build a crate for collecting plastic bottles. True, in any case, you will have to sort them out later, because not all are suitable for installing the drainage system.
Recommended bottle requirements:
- Capacity 1.5 l. These bottles are tougher than two-liter bottles, which means they will last longer.
- The same shape, without curly bends, in which water can then stagnate.
- Same color. It is better to take dark bottles, since dirt is less noticeable on dark plastic.
- It is worth paying attention to the thickness of the plastic. It can have different densities. It is advisable to choose bottles made of thick plastic, which does not wrinkle well and does not crunch when deformed.
Ordinary wire can be used as improvised fasteners. And the tool base will consist of scissors, a knife, a drill, and pliers.
The order of work for the execution of gutters is as follows:
- Bottles are taken and the neck and bottom are cut off from each of them with a knife until the correct cylinder is obtained.
- Each such cylinder is cut with scissors into two parts of the same size.
- Connect the resulting blanks with an overlap of 1-2 centimeters and fix them in this position using a wire or staple staples.
Basically, the drain is ready. All that remains is to fix it under the roof. This can be done by drilling small holes from the edges of the roofing material and passing through them the wire that holds the improvised gutters.
If the cylindrical blanks from the bottles are not half, then drainpipes can be built from them. And from rectangular five-liter bottles you get excellent funnels.
So, without any material costs, it is easy and simple to build a rather reliable and nice drainage system for a summer cottage or home. Of course, it is hardly advisable to use it as a constant. It would still be better to buy industrially manufactured parts for her.
