General information about the pest
A harmful insect that occupies vegetable beds in a matter of days is dangerous because it provokes infection of plants with viral and fungal diseases. Most often, melons, cruciferous and legumes become its objects.
Infected plants lag behind in development, the level of flowering and fruiting decreases. If measures to save them are not taken in time, they will wither and die. The most effective way to control aphids is the use of chemical insecticides. However, these funds are not always safe for people and the environment.
Secondary methods of protection - birds, beneficial insects, fragrant flowers and herbs - are not able to cope with this problem 100%. Therefore, it is best to use safe folk methods, proven in practice.
Folk remedies against aphids
A small pest prefers the juice of young shoots. Old, rigid leaf plates are inaccessible to him - his tiny proboscis will not pierce them. However, chemical treatment can cause irreparable harm to delicate stems and leaves. Therefore, it is best to use gentle methods.
Soap solution
A simple and affordable method of getting rid of aphids. It is easy to prepare: 5 tbsp. l. washing powder or 50 g of laundry soap is diluted in 1 liter of warm water. Plants are treated with this solution using a sprayer. A good effect is provided by a product from 1 piece of tar soap (100 g), dissolved in 10 liters of water.
Soda solution
In 1 liter of warm water add 1 tbsp. l. soda ash. 2-3 tbsp are poured there. l. liquid detergent so that the resulting mixture adheres well to the leaves. Plants are processed in dry weather.
Ash infusion
Wood ash is a versatile product for the garden and vegetable garden, rich in nitrogen. It is used for fertilizing and reducing the acidity of the soil. In the fight against pests, ash is also irreplaceable.
To prepare the infusion, 1 glass of ash is poured with 5 liters of hot water and left to infuse for at least 12 hours. This effective tool can be used not only to combat aphids, but also for prevention.
Tobacco tincture
To prepare the infusion, you will need 1 glass of shag or a few tobacco leaves. In the absence of natural raw materials, they take ordinary cigarettes or butts. Tobacco dust is poured into 5 liters of boiling water and left to infuse for 24 hours.
Then the infusion is filtered and the plants are treated with it. This tool is not only highly effective, but also hazardous to health. It is used at the beginning of the growing season or flowering. During the harvest period, it is advisable not to pick the fruit immediately after processing. It is necessary to maintain an interval of at least a week.
Simple and affordable pest control methods usually get rid of them after a few treatments. However, these funds have a positive effect if they are used in a timely manner.
