Tomatoes are almost always grown through seedlings, which need a timely pick. This procedure promotes the development of the root system, active growth and a good fruit yield. Therefore, gardeners need to know the timing of picking tomatoes in 2020.

What is a picking for, and when to carry it out in 2020
Picking is one of the important procedures for growing tomatoes. It consists in planting young plants in separate containers and pinching the root system. Thanks to the pick:
- there is an acceleration of the growth and development of the root system;
- improves the metabolism of nutrients in plant tissues;
- the amount of sunlight increases due to thinning;
- the immunity of young tomatoes increases;
- ventilation of the roots occurs.
However, picking is not possible every day. Many summer residents use the lunar calendar to determine auspicious days. In 2020, it is May 8, 9, 12, 13, 14, 19, 20, 21, 23, 27. It is not recommended to dive tomatoes later.
In addition, you can do this work on men's days: Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. Then the seedlings will take root well and grow quickly.
It is permissible to time the pick at the time when the Moon is in the sign of Virgo - this time is most favorable for agriculture.
It is not recommended to carry out the procedure on May 22, on the new moon.
How to carry out the procedure
You can start picking tomatoes immediately after 2 leaves have formed on the seedlings. Previously, this should not be done, since the shoots are too weak. Late diving reduces the likelihood of rapid engraftment in a new place and increases the risk of diseases in young tomatoes. Tomatoes need a pick in the following case:
- seedling is well developed, has several leaves on the stem;
- the planting is too thick, the plants do not have enough sunlight and space for root development;
- plants stretch in length, become weak;
- signs of various diseases appear that can destroy young tomatoes.
In these cases, the pick should be started on the next favorable day.
On the eve, the tomatoes need to be well watered with warm water to make the soil softer and reduce the risk of root damage during transplantation.
The required number of containers should be prepared in advance in order to plant all the plants. The easiest way is to use paper cups, which are easy to make from folded newspapers. Some summer residents prefer disposable plastic containers, but this is a more expensive option.
A sufficient amount of fertile soil must be poured into each container. It is recommended to purchase ready-made primer in a specialized store.
The cups of earth must be lined up. It is required to plant tomatoes from the edge of the box so as not to damage the delicate roots.
You need to remove the plants from the soil using a spatula or the handle of an ordinary spoon. It is necessary to pry off the stems with a lump of earth with a tool and carefully separate each plant.
Weak, too elongated or sick specimens should be discarded immediately. Healthy shoots must be carefully examined. If the root system is well developed, you can pinch it slightly. This procedure will further allow the formation of powerful roots that will contribute to a good harvest.
Each plant must be transplanted into a separate cup. It is important to bury the seedling correctly in the ground. It is desirable that the cotyledon leaves are at the very surface of the soil, which will increase the survival rate of tomatoes. To do this, the sprout must be placed in a container and carefully poured the earth along the edges. To seal it, you can knock the glass on the table several times.
The soil around the stem should be lightly tamped. It is important to immediately moisten the soil so that the roots do not lack water. It is better to do this with a spray bottle, but you can gently pour from a watering can along the edge of the container.
Tomatoes that have undergone picking should not be immediately exposed to sunlight. It is advisable to place them in a shaded room for several days to avoid burns to foliage and shoots. Then all the dived seedlings can be taken out into the open air.
