  • Dec 13, 2020

Good afternoon, my reader. Plastic windows create warmth and comfort in the apartment due to their tightness. But sometimes homeowners are disappointed by the condensation on them in the form of perspiration and thin streams flowing down onto the windowsill. Many do not know what to do in this case and how to prevent the windows from fogging up. The recommendations given in the article will help you cope with this problem.

  1. Why condensation occurs

In general, the problem of fogging of insulating glass units is the temperature difference between the outside and inside the room. Usually this phenomenon is noted with the onset of cold weather. But there are many other reasons:

  1. Too high humidity in the rooms, especially in the bathroom and in the kitchen when cooking.
  2. Uneven distribution of heat from heating devices throughout the apartment. So, if the window sill is wide, then warm air enters the lower part of the window poorly.

  3. Illiterate installation of a glass unit. If the installation was carried out by non-professionals, then it is quite possible that the work was carried out with various violations. As a result, the tightness of the structure suffers, which warps over the years, due to which condensation appears.
  4. Low-quality double-glazed windows. Some buyers, in order to save money, buy cheaper products that are not of the highest quality. Insufficient tightness or poor fittings in glass units allow cold air to enter the room, resulting in condensation.
  5. Two-chamber product. Such structures are characterized by insufficient thermal insulation properties, therefore they are more often used for non-residential premises.
  6. Hardware not adjusted. Depending on temperature changes, the structure is capable of expanding and contracting, therefore, it requires regulation in accordance with the season. Otherwise, the window will depressurize and begin to “sweat”.
  7. The insulation is worn out or poor-quality material was used when assembling the product. Over the years, the insulation wears out or hardens. In inexpensive double-glazed windows, this process is much faster, so condensation occurs on the glass.
  8. Keeping house plants on the windowsill. After watering them, evaporating moisture also accumulates on the windows.

Prevention of fogging of windows

Preventive measures in many cases will help to avoid the problem:

  1. First, you need to remove all plants from the windowsill.
  2. Ventilate the home for 10-15 minutes daily.
  3. Install an extractor hood in the kitchen area to get rid of excess moisture.
  4. Inspect fittings and seals annually. Replace worn parts if necessary.
  1. If possible, increase the air temperature in the rooms. Sometimes it helps - the glasses don't “sweat”.
  2. Narrow a wide window sill or make a through hole under it for air access if water drops appear in its lower part.

The most unpleasant thing is that moisture on the windows can cause the development of mold in the form of gray plaque and black spots on the slopes and sections of the wall around the window openings. In winter, moldy areas can be treated with special chemicals, whiteness or an alcohol solution. In the warm season, it is worth taking more drastic measures: completely remove the plaster on the areas damaged by mold and plaster again. Then cover the surfaces with an antiseptic.

Folk and chemical methods for eliminating condensation

These are effective and gentle ways in relation to the structure itself:

  1. Thorough cleaning of windows. Condensation is usually found on a window where a greasy film has formed. First, you need to clean the glass with soapy water and wipe it dry with a soft cloth, then thoroughly treat it with alcohol. This procedure will not allow condensation to collect on the window for some time.
  2. Using a saline solution. To prepare it, you need to dissolve 1 tbsp. a spoonful of salt in 4 liters of water. But first wash the window with soapy water and let it dry. Only after the cleansing procedure, apply the saline solution evenly.
  3. The use of glycerin. You need to take 10 parts of alcohol and 1 part of glycerin, mix thoroughly. Apply the solution to previously washed windows. Soon the alcohol will wear off, and the glycerin layer will remain as a protection.
  4. "Li-lo". Industrial chemical from fogging and frosting on windows. Wearing gloves, apply a thin layer on the glass with a sponge. Wait until dry, then re-treat with the product, but already diluted with water in a 10: 1 ratio. Use a soft cloth.
  5. Second. It is an aerosol that is much easier to handle. It is necessary to spray the product evenly on the glass, then remove the plaque with a newspaper.

Conclusion

So that traces of mold do not appear on the walls and to maintain a favorable microclimate in the apartment, you need to look for the most suitable methods for dealing with the formation of condensation. Perhaps the recommendations given in this article will help you cope with a rather difficult task.
