Good afternoon, my reader. Even beginners in floriculture can effortlessly cope with growing geraniums. This beautiful flower complements the interior of the room and endures both excessive watering and its lack. However, one cannot but pay attention to this flower, otherwise it may get sick, and the most common ailment of geranium is yellowing of the leaves. Possible causes of this problem will be listed below.

One of the most common is improper care of geraniums. Despite its firmness and unpretentiousness, Pelargonium is prone to poor health due to insufficient or improper care.

Violation of watering rules

Geranium is a tropical plant, however, believing that it needs to be watered often is a mistake. She needs rare and abundant watering, twice a week. Avoid getting water on the flower, you need to pour moisture along the walls of the pot. Preferably settled, warm water, and even better - filtered. Please note: it is easier for geraniums to tolerate a lack of moisture than an excess of it. With the second problem, decay processes begin and the leaves turn yellow.

Incorrect fertilization

In the summer, during the period of active growth and development of the flower, geranium needs regular feeding. It takes a lot of plant energy and needs to be restored. If you do not feed the soil, geranium leaves will turn yellow, dry out and fall off due to lack of nutrients.

The optimal frequency of fertilization is once every 2 weeks. Potassium, phosphorus and magnesium sulfate are beneficial nutrients. But if you overdo it with top dressing, the same outcome threatens as with insufficient fertilization: geranium will shed its leaves.

Transplant errors

Each such movement for a plant is a stressful situation, however, it can harm the flower even more: from falling leaves to the death of geraniums. Follow these guidelines to protect your plant from the worst possible outcome:

  • little difference between pots. The diameter of the new one should not be much larger than the old one: they should differ by 1-2 cm.
  • drainage system device. Expanded clay or smaller stones are the material that needs to be laid on the bottom of the pot so that moisture does not stagnate and does not harm the geranium.

Root damage

This part of the plant is the most important, and the life of the flower depends on its condition. Any damage can lead to wilting of the geranium and should be avoided in any case.

You can understand that there are problems with the roots by the yellowed leaf plates. And to deal with this phenomenon will help the treatment with potassium permanganate and the addition of wood ash or activated carbon to the root system.

Also pay attention to the size of the growing container: choosing a pot that is too large will rot the roots, and a small one will be cramped and uncomfortable for the plant.

Natural aging

If you did not highlight the reason in the list above, then the age of the plant affected the yellowing of the leaves. Unfortunately, this problem cannot be solved. In this case, the yellowed leaves and shoots are removed in the spring so that young ones grow in their place.
