Good afternoon, my reader. When growing fruit trees, berry bushes, it is important to take into account the prevailing wind direction and if necessary, use available protective structures to avoid damage to shafts and branches.

Vortex gusts can knock down trees with roots close to the surface or break trunks if the rhizomes are long and strong. And also crops suffer from cold drafts at the flowering stage. Churning of unripe fruits onto the soil is observed. There are different ways of wind protection.
1. Fence
Most often, gardeners from the wind along the perimeter of the site equip a solid fence, using mainly a metal profile. But keep in mind that this material is unstable in strong winds. The solid canvas turns into a sail and often breaks off the supports. And also the disadvantage of such a fence is the appearance of eddies in a strong wind, which negatively affects the development of cultivated plants. In the heat, hot air stagnates near the fence, which dries the leaves.
The best option is a fence with holes. It is carried out from a chain-link netting, a picket fence. Although the wind will still penetrate the cells, its speed will decrease as the air flow breaks up and loses power.
2. Wind screens
Stationary or portable windscreens are used to provide protection to a defined, limited area. Such shields will serve as a cover for a resting place, a sports or playground, and will provide a calm atmosphere near a summer cottage.
They use different materials - polycarbonate, wood, plexiglass. Wind screens are made in a solid version or from separate plates with gaps that allow air to pass through. Install the screen perpendicular to the prevailing wind currents. It is also important to consider the decorative component of this structure, which should be in harmony with the general landscape style.
3. Hedge
The multi-functional load is carried by a hedge, which will not only protect a certain area from the wind, but also serve as an environmentally friendly decorative element of the landscape.
Among the shortcomings, the slow growth of plants is noted, which determines the formation of the required degree of protection over several years. This method is also distinguished by the laboriousness and high cost of purchased seedlings.
More often they equip windbreak strips, choosing plants adapted to a certain area, which form a dense crown and tolerate a haircut well. They prefer fast-growing shrubs with a height of about two meters.
4. Buildings
At the planning stage of the development of the site, it is useful to immediately foresee the construction of gazebos, technical buildings in such a way that reliable protection of future landings from the wind is ensured.
It is possible to build a garage, a barn, a bathhouse on the way of air flows. With such a layout, it will not be necessary to subsequently make additional structures from drafts.
5. Geoplastics
Increasingly, landscape designers are using such a technique as geoplastics in order to provide protection from the wind of the summer cottage. It is based on artificially changing the relief and has an additional decorative function.
Artificial hills, stepped terraces are equipped, for example. If the relief is initially complex and has significant differences, then, if necessary, alignment of certain zones where buildings will be erected.
Retaining walls are also formed from the wind. Hills are poured on the leeward side, usually at least 1.5 m high, using dense, sufficiently heavy soil. This technique is more often practiced in spacious areas.
Provide plants in summer cottages with protection from damage by strong gusts of wind by installing fences, shields, planting hedges, and various buildings.
