How to feed cherries and cherries: feeding schemes from spring to autumn

  • Dec 13, 2020

To grow good seedlings, to get growth in one season, we must not forget about the fertilization of cherries. It is a frost-hardy tree, does not like moist soil: it is a drought-resistant crop. Usually begins to bear fruit from early July to August. Let's figure out how to feed the cherry.

In the spring

Depending on the variety and climate, it blooms quite early, and measures must be taken to protect it from freezing. The last spring frosts have a detrimental effect on the flowers of trees. So that the cherry does not bloom too early and the flowers do not fall under frost, you need to cover the ground under the crown with a thick layer of snow, and that, in turn, with chopped straw or sawdust. Then the ground under the crown will remain frozen longer, moisture and nutrition to the roots will begin to flow later, and flowering will be delayed for about a week.

To feed, from the very beginning of spring, the soil under the bushes and trees must be loose and free of weeds. For this purpose, deep loosening is carried out 2 times during the summer.

Depending on the acidity of the soil, nitrogen fertilizer is applied 1-2 times, for example, urea (50-70 g). Later, its use must be excluded. Otherwise, the tree will grow up to 2 meters. If you buy a ready-made fertilizer, it should include:

  • calcium -15%;
  • magnesium - 6%;
  • sulfur;
  • iron;
  • boron;
  • zinc;
  • manganese.

Such a composition does not give growth, but improves the condition of the soil in terms of calcium and magnesium content, and is suitable for the formation of seeds.

In summer

During fruiting, the cherry absorbs a significant amount of nutrients from the soil and needs to be replenished, because the amount of fruits obtained depends on good nutrition. It is best to give fertilizers in a fractional way: the first time the bush should be watered immediately after flowering, while adding additional fertilizing, and the second time - at the beginning of the increase in the size of the berries.

  • In the summer, you need to apply organic fertilizer in the form of rotted manure or compost, but with an interval of 1 time in 2-3 years. These dressings should be carried out in diluted water with a mullein with the addition of halls. Dilute 1 bucket of mullein with 5-6 buckets of water and add 1-1.5 liters of ash and let it brew for about a week. Then pour half a bucket of infusion under each bush and immediately pour over the cherry with a volume of water of at least 2-3 buckets.
  • Top dressing with a solution of mineral fertilizers. For this in 10 liters. Dissolve 15 g of urea and potassium chloride each and add about 25 g of superphosphate.

In autumn

In the fall, it is necessary to carry out a deeper digging - about 15-25 cm. During digging under a bush or tree, 150-200 g of phosphorus fertilizers and 60-80 g of potassium fertilizers must be added in solid form, so that the root system has time to assimilate all the nutrients. It is necessary to feed it a month before the onset of cold weather, during the summer period the trees are depleted, giving all their strength to the harvest. You also need:

  • Provide the plant with a sufficient amount of organic fertilizers, such as rotted manure, which is distributed around the trunk at the rate of 7-8 kg. for 1 m². Then the soil is loosened, which favorably affects both the structure of the earth and the tree itself. Fresh manure cannot be used for feeding in autumn.
  • Ash. For 1 m², 250 g of ash is enough to reduce the acidity of the soil. Spread evenly around the tree, then loosen the soil and water.
  • To protect the tree from fungal infections and other diseases, you need to feed it with iron. You just need to spray it with a solution of ferrous sulfate. Only organic matter can be applied under young trees, and the rest - gradually, in the form of one-time dressings. Under adult bushes, up to 3 components are introduced along with humus. Be sure to loosen well and watered abundantly, mulch the ground around the cherry.
Trees require proper and quality care. Only under these conditions will the plant live and bear fruit.
