Poison from the Colorado potato beetle, aphids or caterpillars may not work, and as a result, will not cope with the task. How to understand that there are ticks on the site
First of all, it is recommended to determine if you have ticks on the site at all, or the insect was accidentally introduced by the animal. For such a check, you need a piece of light, preferably white, monochromatic matter. Let's say right away that gauze is not suitable for this purpose, since its canvas is not dense enough.
The fabric should be attached with one of the edges to a long stick, or a rail, or something similar. The next morning, as soon as the dew from the grass begins to dry out slightly, but the sun has not yet begun to bake, you must not hurrying over the area, running the cloth over the grass so that it glides over the surface of the grass and bushes. If there are ticks in your area, they will certainly move onto the fabric. If you repeat this procedure every day for 10-14 days in the morning, you can collect and remove most of the ticks.
What chemistry to choose
When trapping ticks with a cloth, it is advisable to mow the grass. If the site is large, and a variety of crops grow on it, and not just grass, then it is wiser and more efficient to spray with poison. Today, manufacturers of household and technical chemicals offer a wide range of drugs for this purpose.
They can be divided into three types:
- Insecticides are very effective, but they have high indicators of danger to humans and animals. Do not allow drugs of this group to come into contact with the skin, mucous membranes or inhale substance vapors.
- Pyrethroids - drugs with low toxicity, are considered not so dangerous to humans, but they can well kill bees, birds or even a cat. The use of funds from this group is permissible in private plots, but not desirable in such large areas as fields, as this threatens the death of beneficial insects.
- DDT - drugs from this group are the most potent. They are able not only to destroy the pest, but also to accumulate in the soil, which in turn can affect the quality of the grown products.
Opponents of the use of chemicals may try to use folk remedies against ticks. Of course, these methods are less effective, but definitely safe for humans and animals.
Here are the most recommended ways to fight:
- Ticks don't like fresh and pungent odors. Citrus fruit juice or water mixed with pungent essential oils sprayed from a spray bottle can "expel" mites from your area.
- You can also treat the places of accumulation - bushes and grass - with boric acid, soda, ash or infusor soil.
