What you need to know about roses before purchasing them

A group of plants of the genus Rosehip is called roses. Most are bred by humans through selection. Almost all roses prefer a warm climate, but there are exceptions that can survive even frosty winters.

It is recommended to choose neutral soils, but alkaline soil can be used to obtain flowers of the most saturated colors. The main thing when growing roses in pots is to provide good drainage and a lot of sun (it is better to place them on southern windows). There is no need to try to quickly transplant the purchased plant: give it a few days to adapt to the changed conditions.

Types of roses for growing in the house

The most popular are dwarf and polyanthus varieties. The former are compact in size and have miniature but fragrant double flowers. Polyanthus roses can bloom all year round, but their flowers are almost odorless.

Less often, representatives of hybrid tea varieties can be found in homes. They are distinguished by large flowers with a delicate aroma.

How to care

Only by providing the right conditions, you can get a plant with strong immunity. Although roses are thermophilic, they must go through a dormant period at lower temperatures in October and February. Ventilate the area where the roses grow regularly. In the summer, it is advisable to take the plants out to fresh air.

Do not allow the earthy coma to dry out - sensitive roots are then difficult to recover. Water the plants as the soil dries and fertilize every 2 weeks.

The transplant is carried out in the spring and is done as carefully as possible: the earthen lump is removed from the pot entirely and transferred to a pot of slightly larger diameter. 1-2 cm of the top soil with a white salt deposit is removed and poured into a fresh pot.

Shoots are cut every spring, leaving about 5 strong branches. The remaining ones are shortened: in lignified ones, up to 6 eyes can be cut, and in thin ones - up to 3. Then the bush is placed in a cool room, and after the first leaves appear, they are moved to a sunny place.

Fungal diseases

High air temperature, coupled with humidity, create favorable conditions for the development of fungi. Disputes can be brought in with soil, flowers, dust.

If you find spots on the plants, treat them with preparations based on copper or sulfur.

Powdery mildew

White bloom first appears on the leaves and spreads to the stems. The affected areas are removed and the plant is treated with a foundation several times.

There is downy mildew with slightly different symptoms, but the measures to combat it are the same.

Viruses

With bacterial cancer, growths or depressions appear on the trunks. The affected parts are cut off and immediately immersed in a solution of copper sulfate for 10 minutes, otherwise they will infect the soil around them for several years.

Rose jaundice is carried by insects. Yellow veins appear on young foliage, then the leaf is deformed. Infected shoots are cut and burned.

They also fight the wilting virus - with it the foliage becomes narrower and dries up, new shoots do not appear.

Infectious burns are characterized by spots with brown dry areas in the center and a crimson edge. You can cut off diseased branches, or cut out the spots to healthy tissue and spread "Rannet" on this place.

Tools must be disinfected so that they do not transfer diseases to other plants.

Spider mite

Small brownish insects are found on the lower part of the foliage.

How to fight:

  • periodically bathe the plant in the shower;
  • sprinkle with infusion of garlic or tobacco, sprinkling the soil with ash or mustard powder;
  • treat with acaricide ("Aktellik", "Akarin", "Neoron", etc.) 3 times at intervals of a week.

Other pests

Malathion-based preparations do an excellent job with most pests. For example, the rose sawfly is sensitive to them - it feeds on fresh shoots, the leaves bend and the plant weakens.

The scabbard can be recognized by brown plaques on the stems and leaves. They fight it with insecticides.

If you notice clusters of aphids on the bushes, treat them with insecticides or a solution of soap or tobacco.

What is the rose afraid of

Abrupt changes in living conditions can destroy the plant.

Waterlogging leads to root decay. Rotten roots are removed, the bush is transplanted into new soil and watered very sparingly.

When dry, they remove dead branches, water the plant and place it in a polyethylene greenhouse, which is periodically ventilated.
