Use the thick as fertilizer

The fact that coffee grounds have a beneficial effect on plants is undeniable. Of course, this is not such a fast-acting and effective means as a complex fertilizer, and will not be able to fully replace top dressing, but the thick can still make its significant contribution to the enrichment of the soil.

Milled grains increase the biochemical activity of the soil and saturate it with nitrogen, which promotes the acceleration of plant growth and the development of the root system. Decomposing organic matter lures earthworms, which loosen the soil and provide good oxygen access to plant roots. Coffee grounds improve the absorption of copper, magnesium, potassium and phosphorus by plants.

Coffee beans contain about 2% nitrogen. Unfortunately, they decompose rather slowly, respectively, and useful micro- and macroelements enter the soil slowly. Gushcha cannot replace a full-fledged complex of nitrogen-containing fertilizers.

Use the grounds as compost

In order to recycle the used grounds and get compost from it, you just need to build a compost heap and send all organic waste there. You can also throw paper coffee filters into the compost: in the process of decomposition, they turn into useful substances.

But it is worth noting the fact that in addition to coffee, the compost must also contain such basic elements as straw or grass cuttings, manure, wood, etc. Based on this, the percentage of coffee grounds should be no more than 15-20% of the total compost.

Use the grounds for mulching plants

Using coffee beans as plant mulch has the following benefits:

  • it is an ecological product that does not harm plants;
  • high content of nitrogen and other trace elements;
  • lures earthworms;
  • does not stand out against the general background of the beds, it looks natural.
However, there is one drawback - coffee organics can grow moldy. To avoid the formation of mold, pre-rinse it under running water and dry it.

It is also imperative to rinse the grounds if there are traces of milk or sugar in it. Sugar can lure ants and other insects.

The addition of coffee waste helps to improve the soil structure. If the top layer of soil is mixed with coffee grounds, then the soil will begin to breathe better, it will be easier to pass moisture and air.

Use thick ground instead of soil

This method is only suitable for growing greens. Fill a small container with organic coffee and plant any herb seeds in it. To prevent a lack of nutrients, feed the seedlings with complex fertilizers.

Use thick grounds to repel pests

Pests such as slugs and snails have a dislike for the coffee substrate. If you scatter coffee organic matter around the plants, it will become a kind of barrier from them.

According to some gardeners, in addition to scaring away, organic coffee can help destroy the larvae of insect pests, including mosquitoes and bedbugs. Of course, coffee will not help to protect the crop from all pests, but it will contribute to this difficult task.

And finally, one more life hack for cat owners. If your pet wants to use the seedling containers as a toilet, sprinkle them generously with coffee grounds. The catchy coffee aroma will discourage cats from relieving themselves in this place.
