Lizard fast
The fast lizard (common, agile) - in Latin Lacerta agilis - belongs to the family of real lizards widespread in Russian regions.
The length of these reptiles varies between 10-35 cm. A distinctive feature is a light abdomen. The darker back of a green, brown, gray tone with a bluish tint is often covered with specks or stripes. Males are usually brighter.
Nimble lizards settle in dry areas. They often bask on the rocks. In case of danger, they discard their tail and quickly hide. The lizard's new tail grows back after 3-4 weeks.
Reptiles got their name for their fast movements. They easily move not only along the ground, but also trunks, branches, walls. In a jump, they deftly catch flies, mosquitoes.
In the garden, nimble lizards will clear the plantings of caterpillars, slugs, larvae of harmful insects that they feed on.
Copperhead (brittle spindle)
A brittle spindle (sucker) 50-60 cm long - in Latin, Anguis Fragilis from the Veretenitsevy family refers to an unusual species of legless lizards.
Males differ from females not only in a darker gray, brown or bronze color, but also in the presence of two rows of spots on the back, as well as in the presence of stripes and marks on the abdomen. In shape, the body resembles a spindle, which explains the name of not only the species, but also the family. The name comes from a bronze (copper) skin tone.
It is difficult to spot this lizard due to its nighttime activity. During the day, she hides in burrows, among snags, in dry grass.
Coppersmiths feed mainly on invertebrates. Can eat newborn mice. Legless lizards bring benefit to the garden, as they destroy slugs, wood lice, caterpillars, larvae and adult pests.
Viviparous lizard
A viviparous lizard can be found in summer cottages - in Latin, Zootoca vivipara. This is another representative of the family of real lizards, common in the northern regions of Asia and in European territory.
The body length of this reptile is approximately 7-8 cm, and the tail of the lizard is twice this figure. The color varies from a brownish-bronze tone to a brownish or greenish tint with a speckled or stripe pattern on the sides.
A well-swimming viviparous lizard prefers to settle near water bodies. It is quite cold-resistant, therefore it is found in the northern regions. It hibernates in the soil, hiding to a depth of about 35-40 cm. Viviparity in this type of reptile is more often observed in cold regions. In the south, they can lay eggs.
When they appear in the garden, these small lizards will bring undoubted benefits, as they feed on snails, slugs, various insects, millipedes.
Having found lizards on the site, you do not need to try to catch them for fun, and even more so you can not destroy these nimble miniature reptiles. They will only be beneficial by clearing the plantings from harmful insects. And watching the beautifully colored lizards basking on warm surfaces will give you aesthetic pleasure.
