Classic recipe
The main components are water and 9% table vinegar. For 3 medium onions, you will need 7 tbsp. l. acid solution, 3 tbsp. l. sugar and 0.5 tbsp. l. salt. Add a glass of water to this mixture and completely immerse the onions cut into rings or half rings. Marinate for 25-30 minutes in a container with a closed lid.
There is a way to pickle onions even faster. The ingredients of the recipe and proportions are the same. The only difference is that dishes with onion rings filled with marinade cannot be closed and are placed in the microwave for 5 minutes, turned on at full power.
Such a product is good for herring and salads, but can be served as a separate snack to the table. And to make the dish more piquant, black or red pepper is added to the marinade to taste.
The best pickled onions for barbecue
It is not at all necessary to marinate the meat in expensive wine, just add a little wine vinegar - and the taste of barbecue will turn out to be no worse. For cooking you will need:
- 0.5 cups of water;
- 0.5 cups wine vinegar;
- 0.5 tsp l. salt;
- 2 tbsp. l. Sahara;
- 2 medium bay leaves;
- black or red ground pepper to taste;
- 2 large onions.
In warm water, mix vinegar, salt, sugar, pepper and bay leaf, bring the mixture to a boil, and then pour the onions cut into thin rings with hot marinade. Cover and leave to cool completely. Next, pour the chopped meat with this marinade with onions and insist under the lid for at least 5 hours.
Wine vinegar makes the onion more juicy, gives it a pleasant sweetness and spiciness at the same time; such a pickled product goes well with any type of meat. The main thing is that the vinegar is natural.
Red pickled onions with oil
The combination of vinegar and vegetable oil will make the marinade taste as soft as possible, and the onions will not feel too hot even with a lot of pepper. For cooking you will need:
- 3 cups refined sunflower oil
- 0.5 tsp l. salt;
- ¼ a glass of 9% table vinegar (apple cider vinegar can be used);
- 1 tbsp. l. Sahara;
- 2-3 large red onions;
- pepper and other spices to taste.
First, prepare the onions: cut them into thin rings, pour over with boiling water and immediately place in cold water. Now mix the rest of the ingredients and pour the prepared product with the resulting marinade until it is completely covered. Insist a snack under a closed lid for an hour.
This dish will be a good addition to meat, fish and even side dishes. If you want to use onions for barbecue, you can marinate them right away with the meat.
Keep in mind that pickled white onions are particularly hot, yellow ones go well with all dishes, and red ones best emphasize the taste of beef or pork. If you come across a very bitter product, you must first blanch it and only then marinate.
