Natural miracle or large-scale deception? Seeds and seedlings of non-existent plants - already on sale

  • Dec 13, 2020

Good afternoon, my reader. Novice gardeners and gardeners are often trapped by unscrupulous sellers who offer seeds and seedlings of plants that do not exist in nature. In pursuit of exoticism, naive buyers are ready to believe even in a miracle, so in the end they will be disappointed. It is necessary to approach the issue of the choice of seed carefully so as not to fall for the bait of scammers.

All the colors of the rainbow

Traditional cultures with hitherto unseen shades of flowers and fruits are in great demand. Blue raspberries, blue cucumbers, turquoise pears, black strawberries and the same roses - the neighbors in the country will be surprised at the sight of the garden of miracles. However, such products are common fiction: we do not live in the tropics, and more restrained colors are typical for temperate climates. Blue pigment is generally considered a rarity.

The distributors, including even reputable online stores, convince gullible gardeners by referring to the latest selection developments, which is not true. It is impossible to achieve that on one branch of lily of the valley colorful buds flaunted, and the grains on a corncob shine like a rainbow. Often, a nondescript pampas grass is given out as a miracle of selection, for which, using graphic programs, they give its fluffy panicle inflorescences a fantastic look.

If you see roses or chrysanthemums of unusual shades with your own eyes, these are ordinary white specimens with the addition of dye. It is mixed into water or into a substrate, due to which the inflorescences become bright. There are also conditionally yellow lilacs or green roses, but they have a subtle shade.

Unprecedented harvest

Dishonest sellers promise that the gardener will receive 15 kg of berries from each bush, and 50 lilies will bloom on one shoot, and they can be collected in a stunningly beautiful bouquet right on the flower bed. In support of these words, you will be offered a huge onion, the gigantic size of which is explained by its age. Another popular "layout" - strawberry, raspberry and tomato trees, columnar varieties of apple, pear and plum. From one such tree, according to the deceivers, 15 kg of fruit can be obtained.

Substitution of concepts

Jasmine delights with its delicate aroma and snow-white branches in late spring. It turns out that scientists have managed to derive a pink analogue. I would like to believe in this, but in real life, three-lobed almonds are given out for pink jasmine. It does not smell at all and blooms two months later. Mini watermelons are nothing more than meloria. Its fruits are savory and smell like cucumbers. The blue black orchid actually turns out to be a takka Chantrieu - a plant from a completely different family, while very demanding to care for.

You don't need to be a professor of genetics or botany to draw the right conclusions about implausible plants. Plant only familiar varieties, and if in doubt, seek advice not from sales consultants, but from experienced farmers.
