Hand grenades in the cinema: what's wrong with them and doesn't fit with reality

As you know, in fiction books and feature films everything is not the same as in life. This is often not the case. Weapons have traditionally been one of the best indicators of artistic distortion. Take grenades, for example. Very often they are shown in films in a completely different way from how they are arranged in real life.

The first and most important thing is that in the cinema with regard to hand grenades is reflected absolutely incorrectly - it is an explosion. As a rule, in films, a grenade explosion is accompanied by a rather impressive burst of fire. In reality, nothing like this happens. In the daytime, it will be quite difficult to notice a flare from a hand grenade detonation. Moreover, the outbreak is very small and transient.

For obvious reasons, grenades do not explode loudly in movies, but this subtlety is another important myth that has developed in the minds of many people. Even the weakest grenades explode so loudly that a person behind cover at a short distance may well lose their hearing for a while. Exploding a grenade indoors is a kind of "adventure" for everyone inside, even if they are behind the wall.

At school, everyone did throwing exercises with a grenade and a ball. It is interesting that in the cinema, grenades are very often thrown in the same way - with a large swing, somewhere in the blue distance. In reality, this is hardly done in our time. Most often, grenades are thrown out of cover by soldiers at a very short distance or, accordingly, are thrown behind a cover that is (sometimes) several meters away from the thrower.

Preparing for battle

Before throwing a grenade, the antennae of the pins really bend. This is necessary so that the check is pulled out of the explosive device easily and naturally. However, even with all this, the check will definitely not be able to pull out with the teeth without injuring the jaw. In addition, when the grenade is thrown a short distance, the thrower pauses 1.5-2 seconds after starting the explosive mechanism in order for the grenade (preferably) to have time to explode in flight. This is necessary to maximize her damage.
