How to reduce fuel consumption of a car and not lag behind the stream

Wanting to save on fuel, many drivers start driving slowly. Very quickly this style of driving gets boring, and this is where the attempts to drive economically end. Sound familiar? The main mistake of such drivers is that economical driving is, first of all, efficient, not slow driving. How to drive efficiently and not spend extra money on fuel - read on.

The most effective driving mode in the city looks like this: intensive acceleration in 2/3 of the gas pedal travel, upshifting at 2500-3000 rpm in order to get to the highest gear as soon as possible, which is possible to include, given the flow rate car. As soon as the speed limit is established, the gas pedal must be reset, but the transmission must not be turned off. The machine will move due to inertia, and the fuel supply to the engine in this mode is completely turned off. And thus keep the car running by lightly pressing and releasing the accelerator pedal. This mode allows you to pick up speed even faster than the flow and at the same time make the most of the car's engine. Some recommend turning off the engine at traffic lights, but the effect of such actions is not very large, while the battery, starter and engine of the car are subjected to increased stress.

Moving along the highway, again, you need to strive to get to the top gear as soon as possible, avoid high revs, and keep the speed within 110 - 130 km / h. You should forget about driving in neutral. In the case of an automatic transmission, the rules are generally the same. We accelerate intensively (most modern "automatic machines" are tuned so as to shift to a higher gear as soon as possible), the main thing when this does not push the pedal too hard, because in this case, the "sports" algorithm of operation may turn on in the automatic transmission, and it will "keep" the transmission.

But driving style alone does not affect fuel consumption. The car must be in good technical condition. This is especially true for the fuel system. Therefore, in injection machines, it is necessary to carry out injector diagnostics at each maintenance. Even factors such as tire pressure can significantly affect consumption figures. Reduced pressure tires create increased rolling resistance, which can lead to a significant increase in consumption. Another enemy of economy is overweight. Therefore, it is worth clearing the trunk and interior of everything superfluous, removing an additional trunk on the crash, if it is not necessary.

Note: a roof rack also significantly impairs the aerodynamic performance of the car, which also negatively affects consumption.

Open windows and sunroof at speeds above 80 km / h create air turbulence, which also degrades the aerodynamics of the car. It is much more efficient to turn on the air conditioner at such speeds - it, of course, also increases the consumption, but open windows make it much stronger. At low speeds (up to 80 km / h), it is better on the contrary - to open the windows instead of turning on the air conditioner.

If you adhere to the rules described above, the driving mode and take care of the car, you can easily achieve pleasant fuel consumption figures.

Fuel consumption is also influenced by the type of engine installed under the hood: gasoline or diesel. Read more about this: Gasoline or diesel: figuring out which motor to choose
