Several decades ago, on the roads of the vast Fatherland, one could see cars in the lighting devices of which some mysterious liquid was poured. Why many of our compatriots did the same with their “swallow. Time to find out what was behind it all - a ruthless fashion or a practical necessity in an attempt to make driving more comfortable.
Let's not beat around the bush and immediately reveal the first intrigue. They poured in a very specific (and not at all mysterious) brake fluid. Much more important is the question of why many domestic motorists did this. It is generally accepted that for the first time it was invented to fill the "brakes" into the headlights somewhere in the late 1970s and early 1980s. This “fashion” peaked in the 1990s, and already in the early 2000s this practice suddenly began to decline. Equally interesting is the fact that initially the described action had an exclusively utilitarian goal.
Every motorist sooner or later faces the accumulation of moisture inside the lighting fixtures. This happens, as a rule, due to damage to this element. The accumulation of condensation in the headlights, in turn, can lead to the formation of corrosion and further failure of the lighting elements. Most often, the headlight reflector rusted. In addition, the fogged-up glass itself began to give worse light. Moreover, in some cases, due to moisture, the headlights even exploded.
As experienced motorists know, brake fluid is absorbent. So the Soviet drivers thought that if you pour a certain amount of this composition into the headlight, then it will be possible to protect it from the development of corrosion, as well as remove excess moisture. As a result, the method of protection turned out to be rather dubious. However, the brake fluid really absorbed excess moisture for the time being. And also she completely excluded the possibility of a headlamp explosion, as it protected it from overheating.

Do not forget that due to the specific red color, the brake fluid changed the color of the headlight glow. It looked very nice. So, pouring "brakes" was also a fashionable amateur tuning, according to which the "correct driver" could immediately be separated from the "teapot".

Finally, it is worth adding that it is not recommended to do this with modern headlights. Moreover, with most models of lighting fixtures, this operation will be simply impossible, not to mention the fact that it will be absolutely pointless.
