In Soviet times, a large number of things were used, which today they not only do not remember, but even do not even know about. Suffice it to recall such a mysterious object as this one. Once he was in almost every Soviet kitchen and every housewife should have been able to use it. What is this little thing intended for?
Before us is not a labyrinth for a cockroach, not a lid or even an ashtray. This device is called the "milk guard". It was invented by the Soviet engineer I. F. Ivankovitser back in 1923. He was granted a patent in 1929 for 15 years. Since then, the "milk watchman" has firmly entered the everyday life of all housewives of the country. These devices were manufactured at the Kolomna heat-building plant, and the most powerful diesel units for submarines and diesel locomotive tractors were also produced there.
The Soviet gadget cost 25 kopecks. For comparison, a loaf of black bread cost 20 kopecks, and not the coolest cake - 22 kopecks. The "watchman" was intended, as you might guess from the name, so that during boiling milk, it does not run away. The thing is extremely useful. It is very strange that today such a device is not so widespread.

The gadget worked very simply. Before boiling, the "milk watchman" was placed on the bottom of the pan. When the liquid began to boil, air bubbles rose from its bottom. They began to lift the "gatehouse", as a result of which, he began to make characteristic sounds. They, in turn, helped the earned mistress to understand that it was high time to pay attention to the pan of milk before it ran away.

In addition, the "milk watchman" had another useful function. Its shape contributed to the fact that the bubbles rising up did not form additional foam, but, on the contrary, destroyed it.
