Do not regret the soldier, women are still giving birth! This thesis in one form or another is used all over the world when trying to belittle the achievements of the enemy's military machine and, in particular, his soldiers. We apply it to Russia, since about the 15th century, similar ideas about the Russian army have been contained in every second propaganda pamphlet of Lithuanians and Poles. Subsequently, the same ideas in the ideological confrontation began to be applied to the Soviet army. But they have nothing to do with reality.

Especially when it comes to World War II. At the time of 1941, the USSR army was really not in the best condition. The rearmament did not have time to end, and the number of military veterans who had gone through the Finnish War as a percentage of all troops was negligible. Therefore, the steel fist of the Red Army had to be tempered already in the crucible of the Great Patriotic War, in particular, it was in Stalingrad that the experience of using assault groups was worked out.

The assault groups, as a rule, were represented by the forces of one infantry squad of 5-6 people. The fighters did not wear anything superfluous, they had an extended set of grenades, knives, spades and machine guns. Sometimes they received sapper protection from bullets. The instruction for attack aircraft ordered to throw a grenade there before entering the room. At the same time, it was recommended to throw two grenades. After the explosion of the first one, it was necessary to throw another one into the room, but this time with the pin not pulled out.

This was done in order to scare the surviving opponents (if they suddenly appeared) and force them to be inactive at the moment of the subsequent entry of attack aircraft, which occurred almost instantly after the second grenades. On the one hand, this trick made it possible to take prisoners. On the other hand, save the second grenade during the cleanup, if all opponents in the room were already dead or injured after the explosion of the first grenade.
