The Kalashnikov assault rifle was the main small arms of the socialist bloc during the Cold War. The machines were produced not only in the USSR, but also in a number of other countries (in many of them they make it under license to this day). However, licensed Kalashnikovs are often not very similar to the original weapon. Especially if you know what important details and elements you should pay attention to.
1. Romania - PA md. 86
The licensed copy of the Kalashnikov assault rifle, created in Romania, is called "PA md.86". It is not at all difficult to recognize a machine made in this country. As a rule, it has a wooden fore-end, into which a planed handle is integrated. The rest of the copy is almost completely similar to the Soviet original.
2. China - Type-56
To date, several copies of the AK-74 are produced in the Celestial Empire. The most famous among them is the Type-56. Throughout its history, this model has also been produced in several versions. You can recognize it by the front sight enclosed in a ring, as well as by the fixed triangular bayonet. In addition, Chinese automatic rifles have more rivets on the case box.
3. Hungary - AMD-63
They make licensed copies of the Soviet machine gun in Hungary. The most famous models are AMD-63 and AMD-65. It is not at all difficult to distinguish them from the original. In most cases, the machine is equipped with an additional wooden handle directly from the conveyor, while the main handle has a modified shape, in addition, the machine always has an open gas pipe.

4. Yugoslavia - Zastava M64
Yugoslavia ceased to exist in 2003. Until then, the country was producing copies of the Kalashnikov assault rifle, which was called the Zastava M64. The easiest way to distinguish it from the original Soviet models was the forend and the barrel pad. Between them on the gas pipe there were three slots, and not two, like the Soviet AK-74. In addition, the assault rifle was equipped with a standard folding grenade launcher sight.

5. GDR - MPI-K
Before the unification of West and East Germany, the GDR also made copies of Soviet machine guns. They were called MPI-K. To distinguish such a machine from weapons made in the USSR was as easy as shelling pears. The Germans released their AK without the usual cleaning rod. This is because old German pencil cases with flexible ramrods, which remained in large quantities in Germany after World War II, were included with the MPI-K.
If you want to know even more interesting things, then you should read about why some types of weapons have the same caliber of 7.62 mm, and the size of the cartridge is different.
