What is needed for hardening
Nothing is needed to harden the bit. First of all, you need to have the bat itself. You will also need engine oil, which is best poured into a small tin can (you can also use a used substance). Without fail, you will need a wire 30-40 cm long, a container with cold water and, most importantly, a gas burner or an induction heater. When all this is prepared, you can get to work.
Separately, it should be added that it will not be superfluous to keep a "basic" set of tools at hand. This primarily applies to screwdrivers and pliers. You never know what you might need during such a serious event.

How to harden a bat
There is one more thing to remember before starting work. Most cheap bits, due to the poor quality of the material, are not able to withstand severe heat. Thus, if you overdo it with the temperature, the bit will easily and relatively quickly deteriorate, thus becoming completely unusable. Now you can proceed to the hardening procedure.

First of all, we fix the bat with wire and pliers, making several wire grips strictly in the center. You should get a spiral of 4-5 turns. It will act as a safe holder. Next, carefully take the bit by the holder and heat its tip with a gas burner. We warm until then, until it turns bright red.
As soon as the bit turns red, we dip it into the prepared engine oil and hold it for 5 seconds, after which we immediately dip it into cold water for another 3 seconds. The hardening is complete. Now it remains only to wipe the bit from the oil.
