Nowadays, not every modern car can be started in winter, what can we say about a tank from the Second World War. It is quite obvious that starting such a car in a severe frost is another task. Based on this, it becomes doubly interesting how the fathers, grandfathers and great-grandfathers coped with this task at the front in a situation when a military operation could be at stake.

Starting a tank in winter is the main headache of a construction engineer. In fact, since the Second World War in our latitudes, little has changed with this issue. Nevertheless, the tank crews had and still have several tricks in their arsenal that help to get out of this difficult situation.

The first trick is bonfires. More precisely, a lot of bonfires. When the vehicles were parked, as they say, in the "field", the tank crews had no choice but to use fire near the vehicles. Small holes were dug for him. With the help of fire, the tank units were heated from the outside, which facilitated the subsequent start. In addition, bonfires served as salvation for the crews on duty nearby.

The second trick is hot water. If the tanks were based near the repair shop, in most cases the crews had the opportunity to get hot water. In this case, it was simply poured (while still boiling water) into the engine and ran there. This allowed the mechanisms to be warmed up and also facilitated the subsequent start.

The third trick is gasoline. It was added to the tank's fuel system at the rate of 1 liter of gasoline to 35 liters of oil. After that, a "run" was carried out for 3-4 minutes. As a result, the oil in the engine became thinner, lost its viscosity and the car became much easier to start. Subsequently, gasoline remained in the pump.
