In the description of the device of washing machines, a small but very important device requires special mention.

UBL - a hatch blocking device is necessary to prevent the hatch from opening during washing on front-loading machines. It is not difficult to understand what consequences this can lead to.

The devices perform two functions: blocking the hatch and blocking the electrical circuit of the machine.

There are three types of UBL:

1. Electromagnetic. Used in early models, the locking mechanism is based on an electromagnet. It has one significant drawback - it instantly turns off in the absence of electricity. Also has an insignificant resource. In the process of evolution, it gave way to more progressive models.

2. Classic UBL received the widest application, is used in most modern washing machines. The principle of operation is to change the dimensions of some metal alloys. A thermoelement is located in the device; when electricity is supplied, it heats the bimetallic plate, to which the lock latch is connected. The latter slides out and fixes the lock. After removing the voltage, the device is in the fixing state until the thermocouple cools down, usually about three minutes.

3. In modern models, UBLs of the "fast" type are used, they are also called impulse. Includes an electromagnet and a rotary locking mechanism. It works as follows: a short signal (pulse) is sent from the control module to the solenoid coil, the magnet core turns the mechanism to the "closed" position, the next impulse turns to the position "open". This type of device has many advantages: quick response and the ability to open the hatch at any time. The big drawback is that until the module gives a signal, the hatch cannot be opened.

All of these devices provide blocking of the main electrical circuit, which means that the operation machine devices (electric motor, heating element, filler valves, drain pump) is not possible until it turns on blocking. This property is necessary so that when the hatch is accidentally opened, there are no emergencies: water splash, burnout of heating elements and other elements, in the event of an empty drum.
