An ordinary outlet can turn into a convenient, and most importantly, a "smart" device that will free the owner from the constant, daily routine. For example, an installed timer, which has a lot of advantages, is a reliable and durable device that, even in the absence of tenants, will independently turn on or off the equipment.

What functions does a socket with a timer perform?

The myth that such devices are installed permanently should be immediately dispelled. Modern sockets with a timer are overhead, that is, those that are plugged into a regular household outlet. They have compact dimensions and are easy to operate, they are divided into 2 types:

  • Mechanically controlled - a simple plastic disc with engraved numbers, very similar to those that are mounted in safes.

  • Digitally controlled. The cost of such a product is higher than that of a mechanical one, but it also has more possibilities. Another plus is the presence of a backup battery.

Timed sockets perform a simple, but sometimes very necessary function - they pass electric current to the consumer (or vice versa, turn off) at a certain time. On digital devices, additional functions are provided: switching between automatic and manual modes, programming for a certain day of the week and the possibility of fine adjustment to several seconds.

When you need a socket with a timer

For example, when there is no need for the constant work of any consumer. This can be a boiler, refrigerator, heater, electric boiler, etc. It is enough just to set the on (off) time, and the device will do the rest on its own.

Important! The timer socket does not turn on the devices by itself, it only supplies voltage. If the consumer does not have an automatic mode, then it will be possible to turn it on only manually, and the need for a "smart" gadget disappears.

How to choose the right socket with a timer

There are several criteria for choosing such a device:

  • Amperage. First, you need to decide on the power of the consumer, and then select the appropriate outlet. A heating convector with a power of 3 kW will simply burn a 10 A socket.
  • According to the degree of dust and moisture protection. An important factor, because sockets with IP54 or IP65 last longer, and their malfunctions are not as frequent as with other devices.
  • By the number of functions. For some owners, a mechanical outlet with a timer will be enough, while others want to fully automate their home.

The higher the capabilities of a "smart" socket, the higher its price. Therefore, you should definitely determine the function that this device will perform and whether it makes sense to buy it at all.

How to connect the device correctly

You just need to plug the socket with a timer into the standard one and set the required on / off time. Setting up on a digital gadget is much faster than on a mechanical one. You can also specially mark the time, thus checking the correct operation of the device.
