You can know many useful things in electrics and even carry out simple installation yourself, but in passing an abandoned phrase or a separate word will immediately show the amateur, especially if the conversation is with master.

1. "Control"

This is not only wrong, but also quite comical. Newbies call "control"... an ordinary indicator screwdriver. Yes, yes, the very "indicator" that ranks first among the tools of an intelligent master, and then the very same multimeters, laser levels, etc.

The control lamp concept comes more from automotive electrics. When there is no suitable tool, it is very convenient to take a 12V lamp and solder 2 wires to it. In principle, the same trick can be done in a regular 220 V network, but this will only be very dangerous. And it's not worth it, a standard indicator screwdriver costs about 1-2 dollars.

2. "Packet"

Few electricians say “circuit breaker”, preferring simply “automatic”. It's easier and easier to understand, and it sounds less illiterate. But the "packet" is fundamentally wrong and something like that could often be heard in the last century, but not in any way when installing modern electrical networks.

It should be said that newcomers call not only automatic switches, but also RCDs, differential circuit breakers, voltage relays, and in general everything that is installed in the switchboard as "packets".

3. "Counter"

It seems like "meter" is a completely normal name for a device that reads electricity consumption. But only some illiterate users call the meter... an electrical panel!

An electrical control room is a wardrobe installed at the entrance to an apartment or house. And the meter is, as mentioned above, a special power consumption device. 2 completely different concepts, and if you confuse them, you can mislead the master.

4. The lamp is "on"

A properly functioning lamp cannot burn, it can only shine. If the light source is really on, then this is very bad, and you should call a specialist who can solve the problem. Most often, poorly cleaned or clamped contacts are to blame for this situation.

5. "Tee"

A tee is a device that is inserted into an ordinary outlet, since it has 3 additional sockets for connecting electrical appliances. But some amateurs call an extension cord a tee - a device with a cord for supplying electricity to hard-to-reach places. By the way, it is better not to use tees, since with an increase in consumers, the power consumption will also increase - the wires may heat up, and a short circuit will become inevitable.

6. Stranded wire

The most urgent mistake in the speech of the so-called "dummies". A stranded wire is a conductor in which:

  • There are several veins.
  • Each core is securely isolated from each other.

And if a wire or cable comes into your hands, where each individual core consists of a large number of very small veins, then such a product is called "Flexible". And today, flexible wire now occupies a leading position in the market.
