Read this before buying a screwdriver - 6 differences between cheap and branded models!

  • Dec 14, 2020

A screwdriver is an indispensable tool, especially for large volumes of work in which screws, screws and of course self-tapping screws are used. But you should not rush to buy a screwdriver, it is better to first find out a few pitfalls associated with such a choice.

Cheap and expensive batteries

A good screwdriver should be autonomous - that's an axiom.

High-quality models only run on lithium batteries, which means:

  • Fast charging.
  • Long life on a single charge.
  • Long service life of the battery itself.

Therefore, a nickel battery in a screwdriver is the first sign of poor tool quality.

Gearbox metal parts

In Chinese models, plastic gears are used for the gear ratio of gearboxes, which quickly deteriorate at high speeds. Unfortunately, finding a replacement is quite problematic, for the reason that the manufacturer simply does not produce the appropriate components. In high-quality models of screwdrivers, only metal parts are used.

Availability of additional functions

For example, a soft start of devices or a protective function such as an instant stop of the tool. Almost all cheap Chinese models do not have this.

Housing

The body is the largest element of the screwdriver, and you can save as much as possible on it, for example, choosing not high-quality clean plastic for production, but cheaper materials with various impurities.

Signs of a poor quality case:

  • The plastic crumbles from the slightest pressure.
  • In the cold it hardens and becomes fragile.
  • Produces a nasty "chemical" smell.

Also, poor quality plastic very soon becomes slippery, which significantly impairs one-handed operation.

The main mistake is low pricing policy!

"The miser pays twice" - this catch phrase most accurately reflects the dependence of the quality of any product on its price. A good, durable and easy-to-use screwdriver simply cannot be cheap.

Cheap Chinese models are based on quantity, not quality. That is why the power tool market is filled with such fakes, the average life of which does not exceed 3-4 months with constant operation. Therefore, it is best to overpay $ 70-80 and get at your disposal a tool that is truly recognized by many professional craftsmen, and deserves a lot of positive reviews.

Availability of a warranty period

Any well-known manufacturer of construction power tools always provides the buyer with a guarantee for their products. After the end of the warranty, you can always contact the workshop of the brand according to which the screwdriver was made.

The possibility of repair is another sign of a high-quality screwdriver, since the designs of cheap models only mean replacement with a new device.
