  • Dec 15, 2020

The higher the canvas, the more natural light enters the room. There is an opportunity to make an unusual layout and experiment with furniture. What if your apartment doesn't have the highest ceilings?

6. Use vertical stripes

This is one of the simplest and most effective techniques. Such geometric lines can carry the ceiling far up. Try to use wider stripes, however, to avoid rippling in your eyes from small details, especially in the bedroom.

Also, in this version of vertical stripes, a mirror strip can come to the rescue, which, in addition to increasing the height of the ceiling, will give an increase in the total volume.

5. Find a reflective floor covering

You can also influence the ceiling from the floor. The glossy surface will pull the blanket over itself and deepen your interior.

To achieve the desired effect, use varnished wood as a coating or, if the budget is limited, materials made "wood imitation". It is better to consider more concise options without a readable picture.

Note that carpets or carpets with high pile, on the other hand, reduce the distance between the floor and the ceiling. It is not recommended to use them in low rooms.

4. Direct the light up

Do not limit yourself to one overhead light in the room, direct the rays back and forth to the ceiling itself using local lamps, floor lamps or sconces. So the ceiling will begin to "float", and a comfortable diffused lighting system will be created in the room.

In this case, it is worth abandoning heavy tall chandeliers as an element of the main lighting. Objects hanging down, on the contrary, will take up the volume of your room.

3. Set vertical vector decor

Elongated vertical objects in a low room are best used for wall decoration. Photos, posters or paintings like prints with geometric lines can visually stretch the space from floor to ceiling.

On the contrary, the abundance of horizontally oriented objects decorating the walls should be discarded.

2. Furniture should not hit the ceiling

There should be no space of 10-20 cm between the furniture and the ceiling. Choose either understated furniture or right up to the ceiling. Against the background of a low setting, the ceiling will seem to "float" above the rest of the interior. We are talking about sofas, tables, beds and dressers.

All storage systems are best installed built-in from floor to ceiling, so that they merge with the wall.

If we talk about a kitchen set, it is recommended to give preference to two-tone options. Moreover, it is better to choose a dark bottom, and a light top. The main thing is to make sure that the general divisions on the facades have more vertical lines.

1. Hang up long loose curtains

If you prefer to decorate the window area with curtains, then stop at long textiles that hang down in light folds. Without unnecessary decor on the curtains in the form of brushes, lambriquins and grabs. All this looks good in palaces with a ceiling height of 5-6 meters.

It is better to place curtains on the entire wall, tulle on the entire wall, and curtains on the sides. Then the technique will give an effect similar to the effectiveness of vertical lines.

Also, a beautiful lengthening effect will be the creation of a niche in the ceiling so that the curtain rod is not visible, and they descend from the ceiling to a level higher than the main one.
