Any area has shaded corners where practically nothing grows. Such places always want to occupy and decorate with something. In this article, I've collected five flower crops that thrive in harsh low light conditions.
1. Astilba
This perennial plant blooms in the second half of summer and pleases the eye with white, pink or lilac panicle inflorescences, which look especially impressive against the background of numerous basal dark green leaves on long petioles. Long and lush flowering, shade tolerance, unpretentious care - these are the main advantages of this charming plant.
For astilba, low shaded areas with poor drainage can be selected. The plant is particularly resistant to high soil moisture. Unlike many other flower crops, astilba looks decorative not only during flowering, but also throughout the summer season.
2. Ever-flowering begonia
This unpretentious plant is literally created for shady places with high humidity. It can bloom all summer long, only it will require extremely fertile soil and proper care from you for this. For a plant, abundant watering with settled soft water, fertilizing with complex fertilizers once every two weeks and preventive treatment against pests are important.
3. Periwinkle
This compact plant with white, purple or pink flowers, creeping stems and dense leathery leaves begins to bloom profusely in spring. All he needs is timely thinning, if the plant has grown excessively, and pinching, if the grower wants to achieve more thickening of the planting. There are also its decorative variegated forms.
It is also a valuable medicinal plant. But be careful - periwinkle easily reproduces by rhizomes and cuttings, it can become a real plant - an aggressor, if you do not limit its growth.
4. Tiarella (tiarca)
This little-known plant of the Kamnelomkov family is a real find for a shady area. Herbaceous perennial - unpretentious to care for, cold-resistant, easily propagating, slightly damaged by diseases and pests - can become a real highlight of your site.
The tiarka blooms from May to September with tassels of delicate light cream, red or white flowers, exuding a pleasant aroma among rosettes of rounded carved heart-shaped leaves on long petioles.
5. Rhododendron
The ideal place for this plant is partial shade, but even in deep shade, it can decorate the garden with lush flowering in spring. Among these luxuriously flowering shrubs, you can choose forms with flowers of different colors, deciduous or evergreen, as well as extremely winter-hardy or greenhouse species.
