5 useful homemade products for summer cottages and vegetable gardens: adopting the experience of folk craftsmen (Part 3)

  • Dec 15, 2020

In this article, I want to continue my selection of useful homemade products for a summer residence and a vegetable garden. After the release of the previous article, I received a lot of feedback with gratitude, so I present to my readers a few more ideas from folk craftsmen.

1. Hanger for gloves

To prevent gloves from lying around the house after work, you can make a special hanger for them. The product is a small piece of plywood with a dozen clothespins. The latter are attached to the surface with small screws or studs. A convenient stand for storing and drying gloves comes out.

You can attach such a hanger anywhere. A fence, barn wall, or workbench is perfect. The main thing is that the product is under a canopy and protected from rain.

To create a hanger, it is better to choose clothespins made of metal or durable plastic. You should not buy cheap analogs, as they quickly fail.

2. High-sided wheelbarrow

A classic garden wheelbarrow can hold up to 120 liters of cargo in its body. This is quite enough for transporting land, but there will be too little space for light bulky materials. An increase in the height of the sides will help to solve the problem. To do this, you need to put an insert with a volume of more than 150 liters in the body. A wide polyester bag can play its role. It will be difficult to find one in the country, so you can sew it yourself from the bag of a bag.

In a wheelbarrow with high sides it is convenient to transport cut grass, foliage, small branches and tops of plants. When folded, the bag takes up almost no space. You can store it in a workbench drawer or under a nightstand.

3. Brush for footwear

In order not to drag the earth from the garden into the house in wet weather, you can make a special shoe brush in front of the door. It will help clean up adhering dirt in a few strokes. The construction of the device is extremely simple. A small wooden case holds four coarse brushes. The distance between them depends on the size of the shoe and is selected individually.

These brushes are not the best way to clean your shoes. They allow you to get rid of the main dirt, keeping the hallway clean. Residual soil is flushed out of the brushes with water pressure using a garden hose.

4. Hose holder

You can purchase a special reel for storing a garden hose, or you can make a simple device from an old rim. Such a holder is attached to the wall of a shed or a strong fence. Due to its large diameter, the hose winds up quickly and can be stored for a long time without kinks. Unlike commercially available reels, a homemade holder does not imply tight winding. The inventory can be thrown on freely, which saves time and effort.

To make an old wheel rim presentable, it must be painted. For this, the most common paint for metal is suitable. Color and pattern are selected according to taste.

5. Strawberry supports

Several types of strawberry supports can be made from plastic bottles with a volume of 5-6 liters. The products support the twigs and prevent the berries from falling to the ground. Earlier, I already wrote a detailed article on how to make several such devices from one bottle at once. You can find the material by the link - We make simple supports for strawberries from plastic bottles (4 supports from one container)

I recently got groups In contact with and Classmates, there I post announcements of new materials every day.
