Initially, I did not plan to conduct any experiments. The idea arose later, when tomato seedlings were already planted in the greenhouse. There was simply not enough space on the main bed for a few weak plants that did not tolerate transportation well. I didn't want to allocate a separate bed, so I planted the seedlings in plastic flowerpots and put them in the aisle.
For the first week after planting, weak seedlings stood in the greenhouse. Caring for her was no different from the bulk of tomatoes. However, after a few days, the flowerpots standing in the aisle began to get in the way. It was decided to take them out into the street and place them near the greenhouse. The place was well heated and not ventilated. Despite this, I was confident that the weak plants would soon die. The seedlings had little chance of biding their time, despite the warm start of summer.
In the greenhouse, tomatoes grew as usual and were not particularly impressive with the pace of development. The planted seedlings also could not boast of record rates, but they did not die. And that was the most important thing. I stopped caring for her immediately after moving to the greenhouse and had already written off her.
Since the beginning of July, I decided to regularly monitor the development of planted tomatoes. Without watering or any care, one of the four plants began to wilt and soon died. The three remaining bushes continued to develop.
I took the last photos of the results on July 20th. Despite the fact that tomatoes grew without any care and moisture, they do not have obvious dehydration and progressive diseases.
Never before have I tried to completely leave tomatoes without leaving. I didn’t think that plants would be able to fully form in the weather conditions of the Leningrad region.
This is how tomatoes planted in open ground now look. I think that for elongated weak seedlings, these are very good results.
