In addition, you need to take into account the fertilizers that were applied during the care of the predecessor crop. Before planting garlic, it is advisable to choose areas already saturated with organic matter. In autumn, its use can be harmful.
Also, don't forget about crops that are generally very soil depleting. For example, carrots. After this root crop, it is better to let the substrate rest. The harvest of garlic on poor land will be meager and shallow.
The best precursors for garlic are grains other than barley and oats. They significantly improve the soil, but they are rarely found in summer cottages. Forage grasses such as clover and alfalfa can also be included in this category.
Legumes such as beans and peas are good precursors. They are often found in our gardens, so their territory can be immediately determined for planting garlic.
If the legumes are scattered over all the beds and do not have a separate territory, you can plant winter garlic in the place of squash, pumpkins and zucchini.
The last most suitable predecessor is cucumbers. After harvesting and removing the tops, the beds can be immediately prepared for planting before winter.
