The drainage system of any country house sooner or later becomes clogged with dry leaves and small branches. Debris creates congestion that prevents rainwater from flowing out. To keep the gutters working, they must be cleaned regularly. This requires a long staircase and a certain skill. For the elderly, it is not easy at all.
To solve the problem once and for all, a protection must be installed in the gutter. It is a metal mesh that is sold with the gutter system. The design prevents debris from entering the gutter, eliminating the need for regular cleaning of the gutter.
The problem is that this method is only suitable for new homes with modern drainage systems. For old and homemade gutters, protection will not work, and it is expensive and irrational to remodel the entire structure due to debris.
Fortunately, there is a popular solution to the problem. This requires a fine plastic mesh and wire cutters. The first one can be bought at any major home improvement or gardening store. The cost will be an order of magnitude lower than that of ready-made protective structures.
The plastic mesh is cut into strips 20-40 cm wide, rolled into a tube and placed in a groove. The edges are fastened together using wire or plastic ties.
Note that the mesh should not protrude too much above the roof level. Otherwise, in the spring, the gutter can be torn off during an avalanche of ice and snow.
