Without hesitation, I bought a chain wrench for cheap. Now I regret that I spent the money. I'll tell you why.

I ran into a hardware store for pipe fittings. I passed the tool shelves. On them lay dyed iron blocks with a chain, packed in dense cellophane. Curiosity took over my mind. And I bought a key with a chain without thinking for a long time, because I was in a hurry. When I got to the garage, I unpacked the instrument, I am telling my impressions as it is.

Scrolling through the photos in the gallery.

Having opened the package, we saw a piece of a painted handle with a chain. At first glance, it was not done badly. But the truth is in the details, so we take a closer look.

Close-up

The corrugated part of the instrument, which serves as a persistent grip, is made "for a laugh". A casting defect is visible, greased with paint.

The chain is abundantly watered with oil, the links are flimsy, of thin metal. The shape has nothing to do with bicycle chains.

General form

Principle of operation

  1. One end of the chain is rigidly attached to a metal handle. With the free end, we grasp the object in a circular manner and hook it onto special projections. Thus, we capture.

  1. In order to firmly grip the object, we shift the handle. The chain is "shortened". Which leads to clamping of the part.

As you can see from the photo, the chain wrench captured a 110 mm sewer pipe. In principle, it can be used for a single assembly of sewers with a diameter of 110 mm or more, in order to transmit rotary movements to the pipe during installation or disassembly. But when the chain is squeezed, the coating is damaged, risks remain on the pipe surface. Which is very bad when laying the pipeline outside.

What about small diameter metal pipes?

A protrusion is provided in the handle housing for gripping small pipes. Thus, it is possible for the chain to grip the metal round more tightly. But either my skis do not go, or I am a fool, but a strong grip did not work, the pipe slips and the key cannot grab it "tightly".

Having pissed off the rust from the tube, the "hard-alloy coating of teeth" has already been licked, which is not even mentioned here.

It cost me around 400 rubles. Cheap for a good tool. But not in this case. There is only one conclusion: the tool is probably good. But not our copy.

I will carry him in a car under my left hand. Maybe it will come in handy, chase hooligans. From SW. to readers Timofey Mikhailov.
