White top, black bottom - a form of clothing known to everyone at school. And even if today there is no single approved style school uniforms, in memory still Soviet patterns, when the boys went to the militarized trouser suits with jackets and the girls - dresses with aprons. However, if you look closely, aprons suspiciously similar... uniforms were the maids. We will understand why.
School uniforms - is not an invention of the Soviet era. In the middle of the XIX century schoolboys to study sure to wear uniforms, which differed from the military only some details (color of the fabric, the appearance of buttons, differences in sewn logos). Pupils of the Institute for Noble Maidens, too, went to the well-defined simple cut dresses that complement the aprons (dark for everyday wear, and white for the holidays).
In principle, these clothes and was taken as a basis when the Soviet ideologues decided on the introduction of a special form schools. It was in 1948, it was necessary in the post-war years, special attention should be paid to universal equality, and therefore it was decided to put the students in the same clothes.
The form that entered in 1948, differed little from the high school. Those collars, cuffs and aprons for girls and strict jacket for the boys. Partial democratization of men's suit has occurred only in the 1960s, then lifted his cap with a badge and a belt with a massive buckle. However, the appearance of strict boyish shapes still suggest that the younger generation are prepared exclusively for the further service of the fatherland.
Wear uniforms girls were troublesome. White cuffs and collars looked fresh, but they had to remove the weekly wash, stripped and sew into place. Apron wore black, with brown dress he did not look very impressive, but defended the clothes from ink stains. On holidays wore a snow-white lace apron, so it was necessary, for example, go on line on 1 September.
If today is to look at the clothes Soviet schoolgirls, then any association with maids uniform. The same neatness, modesty, the same dark dress and white apron. Why is that? Most likely, the girls from childhood trying to instill the idea of cleanliness, form a habit to monitor their appearance.
What were the maids? Clean the house, lead management, were careful, but it is practically not noticeable, because they lived together with those who waited. The same humble and hardworking and educated Soviet girls, future homemaker who arranges and strong and durable cell of society.
