Hi friend. A crazy idea came to my head to measure the power of a home-made device for boiling water. From the army past with the help wattmeter.

For such the political officer loved to hunt with us. The fact is that our barracks were old and aluminum wiring often gave weakness and burned out from this homemade work. Therefore, the electrician was a frequent visitor in places where soldiers were on duty.

To me became curious. But does such a craft really have a high power that the wiring could not withstand. Therefore, I decided to measure its effectiveness using a device.

Boil rain water

Since I only had rainwater in the garage (I took it from a fire barrel), I first boiled it.

But what then such water boiled for a long time. And the fact is that it did not have enough salts in its composition. After all, it is rainy, almost distilled. And many people know that water without salts does not conduct electricity. Therefore, the process of heating the water was delayed. The maximum current consumption in this case was 504 W. Boil tap water

In order not to disrupt the tests, I decided to bring water from the tap and repeat the experiment. No sooner said than done.

It turned out that the power of the boiler from the blades is not so high with an average water hardness. And it depends on the presence of dissolved salts in the water. The higher their content, the faster the water boils. And the higher the load on the network. And the wiring in our barracks "burned" mainly due to short circuits due to improper use of irrelevant homemade products.
