Don't rush to throw away your broken umbrella, you can make a great bag from it

  • Dec 17, 2020

Friends, hello!

Last time we did a useful thing for the kitchen from an old umbrella, which many readers really liked. Today we will also sew a cool bag from a broken umbrella.

A friend brought an umbrella, almost new. In a strong gust of wind, several spokes broke, and the fabric of the umbrella is solid.

Such a folded bag does not take up much space and you can easily go shopping with it without buying plastic bags.

For sewing the bag, we used:

· Broken umbrella (or old, boring one);

· Sewing meter;

· Ruler, scissors, remnant;

· Threads, needles, pins;

· Sewing machine;

· Corsage tape;

· Velcro;

· 4 large buttons;

· Bow (optional).

Step 1.

We disassemble the umbrella, separate the fabric from the frame. Smooth with an iron.

Step 2.

Fold the dome in half and mark 10 cm in circumference from the hole. Cut out and sew on a typewriter.

Step 3.

We turn up the edge and outline it. Then we sew on a sewing machine.

Step 4.

On the outside of the dome, we make markings around the seam of each segment 9cm by 3cm and sew on a typewriter.

This is how it should turn out.

Step 5.

Fold in half between the stitched darts, mark 9 by 3 cm as well and stitch.

Step 6.

The bag is still too wide, so again fold each wedge in half, mark 9x1cm and sew.

Step 7.

We turn out the bag, make a fold and fix it with pins. We are stitching.

Step 8.

To reduce the width of the upper part of the bag, lay 8cm on both sides and sew on 2 buttons.

Step 9.

The handles were made of a corsage tape 50 cm long. Velcro was used instead of a fastener. Sewn a bow.

The bag is ready.

Friends, it is not very easy to describe the process that you need to see, so watch the video as well:
