Good afternoon, my reader. With the arrival of warm spring days, various insects leave their shelters. Among them are blood-sucking ticks, which are dangerous to humans and animals. To protect a summer cottage from arachnid parasites, it is not necessary to use potent chemicals. You can apply effective folk remedies.

Ticks are dangerous insects

Ticks, of which there are more than 50 thousand species, are able to adapt to any conditions of existence. Some species live indoors (scabies or bed). Others, for example ixodids, they are also called borreliosis or encephalitic, settle in dense vegetation.

Depending on the species, there are external differences between blood-sucking insects. However, they all feed on blood. The most common ixodid ticks are taiga and canine ticks - it is they (according to Russian statistics) that bite people and animals more often than others.

Site protection

Parasitic insects that can harm people and animals most often live in favorable conditions for them. These are shady areas of the garden with damp soil and an abundance of herbaceous vegetation. To protect themselves and pets, summer residents need to carry out some activities on the site.

Garbage collection

In cold weather, mites hide in the upper layers of the soil. They begin to show activity as soon as the soil begins to warm up. Before the onset of heat, it is necessary to have time to clear the garden area from plant debris, in which parasitic insects find a warm refuge for themselves. The leaves, grass, branches collected in a heap must be burned.

Mowing grass

Tall grass is an excellent refuge for arachnid bloodsuckers. Therefore, overgrown lawns (lawns) must be kept in order. The cut grass solves two problems at once: it gives the site a well-groomed look and deprives the ticks of shelter.

Arrangement of a garden path

So that the garden paths are not overgrown with grass, in which there is complete expanse of blood-sucking insects, it is advisable to cover them with some kind of building material. To do this, you can use: sand, crushed stone, screenings, whole or broken brick. It all depends on your preferences and financial capabilities.

The track arranged in this way will look neat. And ticks that prefer to live in dense vegetation simply won't appear there.

Getting rid of excess vegetation and waterlogged soil

Parasitic insects prefer thick shade and plenty of moisture. Therefore, you should not neglect cutting the crown of trees, shrubs. In addition, you can remove old or diseased plants that over-thicken the planting.

It is advisable to drain wetlands. And if increased moisture appears as a result of abundant watering, then they should be reduced to reasonable limits.

Sowing repellent plants

Many pests do not tolerate the smell of fragrant, spicy herbs. Therefore, experienced summer residents use some plants to scare them away. You can sow tansy, feverfew, wormwood, basil, mint, lavender, rosemary. Fragrant plants will protect you not only from ticks, but also from small rodents, such as mice.

Of course, folk methods will not completely solve the problem of exterminating ticks. But they will at least significantly reduce their number and reduce the risk of dangerous infection with encephalitis.
