Making kitchen furniture: video instruction

The furniture market today offers us the widest selection of kitchen sets - and this is very good, since it becomes possible to choose a model that most accurately fits all our requests and needs. But at the same time, only making kitchen furniture with your own hands allows you to get a completely unique kitchen - after all, no one will have such a set.

In this article, we will tell you what you may need to make kitchen furniture, and also describe in general terms how you can make your own kitchen set.

Making furniture is not difficult - but you have to work hard!

Materials for furniture production

In fact, simple kitchen furniture like cabinets, shelves and nightstands under countertops for kitchen is pretty simple. Having mastered the manufacture of kitchen furniture, you can significantly save on the purchase of new interior items - and also get exactly the kind of furniture you need.

To make a set with your own hands, you may need the following materials for making kitchen furniture:

Solid pine shield

• Solid wood. The material is quite expensive, especially if you use valuable wood species - but at the same time, it provides the kitchen with the best appearance.
  It is better to use a solid board for the manufacture of facades and countertops, since natural wood is spent on the back and side walls kitchen furniture modules - is irrational.

Not all wood is suitable for us - all wood material for the manufacture of kitchen furniture must be thoroughly dried. The maximum permissible humidity is about 10%.

• MDF and particle board. An economical option that is suitable for the manufacture of almost all elements. Laminated MDF and chipboard panels can be used for the manufacture of facades - moreover, the better the lamination, the more durable it will be kitchen facade.

• Multiplex is a composite material consisting of wood layers glued in different directions. This material for the manufacture of kitchen furniture is good because it is not afraid of moisture, and furniture made from it retains its shape longer.
  This is extremely important for a kitchen with its constant fluctuations in temperature and humidity.

In addition to these materials, plastic, metal (most often aluminum), glass can be used in the design of kitchen furniture, and if you are thinking of making upholstered kitchen furniture, then you will also need foam rubber for filling, as well as fabric or leather. In general, the choice of material is limited solely by your imagination.

Tools

As for the tools, the situation is somewhat more complicated. Simple furniture work does not require complex equipment, but full-fledged furniture manufacturing "from scratch" is impossible without high-quality tools.

The minimum set looks like this:

• Electric and hand saws;
• Electric jigsaw;
• Drill with a set of drills for wood and metal;
• Screwdriver;
• Milling cutter (for processing the ends of panels made of wood, MDF and chipboard;
• Plane;
• Sander;
• Hand carpentry tools (hammers, chisels, chisels, etc.)
• Measuring tool.

As a rule, most of this list is in the closet of any master - but you will have to buy something in addition.

Preparatory work

If everything you need is already at hand, let's move on to the story of how to make kitchen furniture yourself.

We will describe the manufacturing process using the example of kitchen cabinets - after all, as in any work, you need to start with simple things, gradually mastering more and more complex technologies.

• We start work with designing our future kitchen cabinet. Using a computer, or in the old fashioned way - on a sheet of graph paper - we build a drawing on which we indicate all the dimensions we need.
• Based on the drawing, we get a list of panels that we will need to make from laminated MDF - the main material for our kitchen.

Advice!
To save material, as well as to keep the price of our finished product as low as possible, we make the back wall from thin plywood or fiberboard.

• With the dimensions on hand, we go to buy chipboard. As a rule, chipboard suppliers provide services for its cutting.
  We recommend that you use this service, since it is very difficult to cut a large chipboard or MDF board evenly at home.

• Furniture facades can be made independently - but this work already requires serious carpentry skills. Therefore, the easiest way is to order facades of the required dimensions in a furniture company - almost all manufacturers of kitchen furniture provide this opportunity.
• We buy all the necessary accessories - legs, hinges and handles for our cabinet.

When all the components are folded in our workshop, you can proceed to the assembly.

Furniture assembly

The furniture assembly instructions are as follows:

• First, we check the compliance of all our parts with the required dimensions. If necessary, we carry out the adjustment.

Chipboard edging

• Then - all visible ends of parts made of MDF or chipboard are pasted over with an edge. The easiest way to do this is with a regular iron, ironing the edge through a sheet of clean white paper.
• After edging, we proceed to assembly. We connect the parts with clamps, placing paper under the clamps to avoid damage to the laminate. In the right places, using a drill, we drill holes and, without disassembling the clamps, we twist the euro screws into the holes.

Drilling holes for fasteners

• We fasten the back walls made of plywood or fiberboard using a construction stapler.
• On the facades, using a special cutter (pictured), we make recesses for the base of the hinges. We install the hinges into the holes and fix them with self-tapping screws.
• We attach the facade to the assembled kitchen module, after which we fix the hinges on the inner surface of the cabinet. Using a screwdriver, we carry out the final adjustment of the hinges.
